Lorn G. Lowman
1924 - 2017
Lorn Gale Lowman passed away on March 4, 2017 at Marquis Care Center in Springfield, Oregon at the age of 92. He was born on December 27, 1924 in Fall Creek Wisconsin to Loy & Pearl Lowman. His twin brother passed away in 2010 leaving Lorn as the last surviving sibling of the 5 Lowman children Lyle, Dale, Zane, Lorn, & Sister Dawn.
Lorn graduated from Augusta High School in 1942. After serving in the Army Air Corps as a Control Tower Operator during WWII he moved to Oregon in 1948. He worked for two years for Michale Baker Engineers on a survey crew relocating the railroad and highway for the Look-out Point Reservoir before going to work for Weyerhaeuser Company in Springfield in 1951. His 33 years with them was in Maintenance in Instrumentation Dept. and the last 16 years as a Supervisor of Instrument/Electrical planner before retiring in 1984.
Lorn married in June 1955 to Shirley Hendricks and had two sons. When they divorced, he remarried to Ernice Davis which also ended.
Lorn finally found the love of his life in Rhea Joyce Hearty and they married in May 1980. After retirement they spent 4 wonderful years traveling in their RV and visiting many unusual places, and after living in Bend, Oregon area for 11 years finally returned to reside in Springfield Oregon to be near her family in 1999.
Papa Gale loved the Oregon Ducks and Green Bay Packers and never missed a game even while he slowly became incapacitated. He loved to go to the casino and if he could wiggle one of us into joining him in a round of Poker well that was all the better! He enjoyed gold and fishing and volunteering with his wife at McKenzie Willamette Medical Center in Springfield. He also enjoyed being involved with his church family and volunteering in whatever capacity that was needed.
Lorn is survived by 2 sons: Lane (Karen) and Lindy, and 1 half sister Sharene Callies; 3 step-children, Sheila Stickler, Terry Wiebke (Bill), Russell Hearty (Ginger); 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 8, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Springfield at 2:00 p.m.
Interment has taken place at Deschutes Memorial Gardens in Bend, Oregon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church or Springfield, After School Program.
Arrangements entrusted to Springfield Memorial Funeral Home.
