10553 | I9829 | Drollinger | John Michael | 21 Oct 1858 | 26 Feb 1941 | 0 | Ref the following article (ref link below) published in The Marion Daily Star (Marion, OH) on 15 Jun 1914 regarding the ninth annual reunion of the Drollinger descendants of the late Mrs. Samuel Drollinger where it mentions many family members: http://search.ancestry.com/browse/view.aspx?dbid=6431&iid=news-oh-marion-mariondlystar.1914_06_15_0009&rc=246,729,338,754;21,2008,109,2033;21,2917,162,2946;200,2946,346,2975;967,83,1067,104;625,363,729,384;542,696,659,721;629,758,733,779;542,813,692,842;704,813,796,838;833,813,958,838;938,842,1038,867;938,1025,1038,1050;983,1117,1054,1138;975,1179,1058,1196;542,1421,664,1450;538,1546,671,1571;975,1721,1071,1742;1483,2909,1577,2934;1171,3259,1246,3284;2696,2567,2798,2592&pid=479411209&ssrc=&fn=william+walter&ln=drollinger&st=g http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:euNd7MTL0LgJ:freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dlddvm/+%22ella+Drollinger%22&hl=en Patton Family Photos-Ohio Below are some photos of the family of Abraham Patton of Hocking and Marion Counties in Ohio. These photos were in a flea market, along with many pages of notes relating to the research done on this family by John J. Davis. I have begun scanning the manuscript pages and some of them are now online. Click here to go to the genealogy. Please note that there are no sources in his information, only notes written longhand. Click on photos to enlarge. Last updated 28 July 2003. Patton Photo Information 1. Pattonbrosis Written on the back: "Patton brothers and sisters taken about 1909 - Elisha W. Patton, Elias F. Patton, Joel B. Patton, Hannah Johns, Sarah Arnold, Ella Drollinger". Sarah was born in 1838, 3rd child of Abraham Patton and his first wife, Rosannah Hamilton. The others were children of Abraham and his second wife, Catherine Ann Self: Elisha b. 1844, Hannah b. abt 1854, Joel b. 1856, Elias b. 1859, and Ella b. abt 1861. 2. Drollinger Nothing is written on the photo. According to the Patton Genealogy by John J. Davis, Ella Patton married John M. Drollinger and lived in Marion Co, OH. They had the following children: Samuel L., Elmer, Minnie, William W., Arthur, Arlis, Onard Harry, Carl E., Sylvia, John J., and Ellis. Arthur and Arlis died young so the other 9 children are likely those in the photo with their parents. 3. EliasFfam Nothing is written on the photo. According to the Patton Genealogy, Elias F. Patton married Margaret Florence Carter in 1885 and they had the following children: Irene, Hazel, Vinton, Orville, Onard, Leo E., Elias F. (Lyle), Carter M., Donald E., and Eileen F. The last was born in April 1909 so this photo was likely taken shortly after that. Vinton and Orville died young so the other 8 children are likely those in the photo with their parents. The author of the Patton Genealogy was married to Irene Patton. 4. Pattonreunion Written on the back: "J J Grigsby 241 [Ohio St?]. A John J. Grigsby married Minnie Drollinger". This appears to be a family reunion photo, taken perhaps a few years after the first 3 photos. In the second row, seated on chairs, several of the people from the other photos appear. Fourth from left may be Elisha W. Patton. Sixth from left may be Hannah Johns. Next to her are Elias F. Patton and his wife, then John and Ella Drollinger, then Joel B. Patton. 5. GeoPattonfam On the back is a very faint penciled inscription "from your loving sister" and other information very difficult to read. In ink it says, "From left to right Hattie Galylan - maiden name Paton; Henry Collins - sisters boy; Nettie Barlow - Paton; Lee & Ellen Calhan holding Cecil; Geo & Easter Patton - mother & father; Arthur & Maude Patton & Eunice; front row, Raymond, Beulah & Gladys Calhan [Calhoun?], Eva Wilis". This family does not seem to be included in the Patton Genealogy and their relationship is unknown. (There is a photo posted for each of the five) |

10570 | I2990 | Drollinger | John W. | 14 May 1818 | 13 Dec 1868 | 0 | Looking carefully at his headstone inscription, it appears his middle initial is a 'W'. Because John and Sarah named one of their sons, John William Drollinger, I now suspect that John's full birth is also John William Drollinger. DHD When John Drollinger died they owned a farm near Danville, Illinois. Sarah wanted to keep the farm, and had enough sons to do the work, but the court, or whoever, wouldn't allow this as she was "only a woman". The farm was sold and each person got a share of the money. This is as related by Viola Adeline Drollinger to her granddaughter, Viola Mecum. Correspondence between Viola and Gordon L. Drollinger via snail mail. |

10595 | I16725 | Drollinger | Joseph | 26 Nov 1788 | 0 | We know Peter Drollinger of Franconia (now Philadelphia) spelled his name as Drollinger. His son Andreas or Andrew was a Drollinger who was variously was recorded as Trollinger and signed his name to the probate of Peter record as Trollinger. His marriage record was as Drollinger. Andrew's children found in the records of St Michael's Evangelical Luthern Church Germantown (also now part of Philadelphia) went to spelling the surname drollinger, Trollinger and Trullinger. This is confusing to say the least and future researchers need to be aware of this spelling quirk | tree1 | |

10599 | I2931 | Drollinger | Joseph Chapman | 12 Aug 1846 | 25 Apr 1925 | 0 | Sometime between the fall of 1873 when their son Charles was born in La Porte and spring of 1876 when son Burton was born in Kansas, Joseph and La Vanchee succumbed to the lure of land in the west. It is likely that they moved to Harvey County, Kansas, in the spring or summer of 1874 or 1875. If they arrived before the devastating grasshopper infestation in the summer of 1874, they must have wondered if they had made the right decision. If they arrived with cash after the crops were ruined and many settlers were forced to leave, they may have been able to purchase land at reduced prices. The grasshopper invasion came after a year of drought and ruined many settlers. "On the 7th day of August 1874 these little red-legged engines of destruction, made their first appearance in Harvey County, coming in such numbers as to literally blot out the sun, giving the impression of low-flying, gray black clouds being blown swiftly from the northwest. They came very suddenly and entirely unannounced. For two days they continued coming over the solid 'mass-formation,' until they all found a place to light. Then the wholesale destruction commenced and continued for two or three days. At the end of that time every stalk of corn, and every vestige of vegetation that was green enough for them to eat simply was not, it did not exist!" Entire counties were barren of vegetation. The ensuing poverty among farmers was swift and those who could left. However, bountiful crops in 1875 rewarded those who remained and prosperity returned. Whenever they arrived, the Drollingers were pioneers. The very first settlers were ahead of them by only a few years and cattlemen and farmers still battled over open range versus fences. This was the very wild West where gunfights could explode when liquored up cowboys argued. But the Drollingers never left, living in Harvey or adjoining Sedgwick County the rest of their lives. So far, the records are silent on the Drollingers participation in the issues of their time or even on their land purchases and distributions. The revealing land, tax, and court records have been inaccessible, but some deductions can be made from the few records available. It appears that the Drollingers remained a rural family, never moving to town. In 1880 they lived in Macon Township, Harvey County. When Joseph's father's estate was settled in 1889, Joseph was living in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas. Joseph's death certificate says that he died of paralysis at a place 5 1/2 miles southeast of Wichita, but that he previously lived 14 years in Newton, Harvey County. The 1900 census places him on his farm in Minneha township, Sedgwick County. That township, " the very best in the county," is southeast of Wichita. A 1915 list of landowners shows a J. C. Drollinger owner of 390 acres with a total value of $22,000. Eighty of the acres are in Wichita Township, three hundred ten in Minneha Township. The list can be sorted by township, so it is possible to determine the neighbors and then compare them with the 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses. There does not appear to be a match in the 1900 census. None of the neighbors are those who are listed as landowners in the same sections as the J. C. Drollinger on the 1915 list. Joseph died in 1907 and La Vanchee lived with her son Earnest in Wichita Township, Sedgwick, in 1910 and again there does not appear to be a match. However, there is the suggestion of a match in the 1920 census with two surnames that surround J. C. Drollinger in section 30 of township 27 south range 1east surrounding Earnest and La Vanchee. With Joseph dead by 1915, presumably the land would be in probate or distributed to the heirs unless the land is in La Vanchee's name, too, and the compiler did not leave room in the database name field for more than one name. Another piece of evidence that might bear on this is that in 1910 Earnest was a milk man, but he owned a mortgaged farm. By 1920 he owned his farm free and clear and was farming. It appears on the surface that he may have ended up with part of his father's acreage in exchange for the care of his mother. Again, unavailable records stymie the search. What is certain is that La Vanchee died 16 November 1925 of stomach cancer and was buried next to Joseph in Section H, lot 2, in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. Also in this plot are their sons Granville, J. Orville, and Earnest A., as well as Orville's wife Victoria and an Evelyn Drollinger who may be a wife of Granville or Earnest.
