A group of girls in the Life Saving class passed their Red Cross test.s the past Friday at the YMCA. Their Instructor is Mrs, Edna I Eagle, who is assisted by North Hinton, registered Red Cross Life Saving Examiner. The Juniors who passed are Ethel Shaner. Arabella Gottshall, Yvonne Trollinger, Gayle Galloway, Virginia Robinson, Jane Sooy, Ann Pocht ' and Fern Drumheller. i The Seniors who pa-ssed are Isabel! Mentzer, Jean Mentzer, Dorothy Freeh, .Arlene Weave, Lorraine Jones and Francis Biehl. Girls who were on vacation when the tests were taken, have two hours to make up. They will complete the course on their return. Those girls are Jean Pratt, Sylvia Shaner, Joyce Swavely, Mary MacFarland and Phyllis Sell. It was announced that Lorraine Jones and Fern Drumheller will be in charge of swimming on Wednesday nights at 7 o'clock. |

She peacefully left this life on April 20, 2013 at Lynchburg Nursing Home in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Lillian attended school in Haley and joined Mt. Zion Haley Baptist Church in Normandy, Tennessee at an early age. She would later become the oldest living member. Lillian worked in private homes and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Lillian was married to the late Robert Clint Trollinger and to this union three children were born, two whom preceded her in death: Norman Trollinger and Pearlene Trollinger Durant. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Billy Norman Trollinger. She would later marry Raymond McNairy who also preceded her in death. Along with husbands and children, Lillian was preceded in death by her brothers, Gilbert and Harrison Rippy, and three sisters, Dorothy E. Rippy, Esther B. Rippy Baker, and Louise Rippy Trice. Lillian leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Clara Mai Hall, Lynchburg, TN; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Glen Trollinger, Shelbyville, TN; a step-daughter, Mai L. Lemons, Inglewood, California; a grandson, Robert Lewis Trollinger; seven granddaughters, Susie Stewart, Doris Waggoner, Karita (Ken) Bailey, Deborah Hall, Ida (John) Owens, Carolyn Wells, and Lisa (James) Carden; fifteen great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Laura Cortner, Shelbyville, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews. |

7969 | Lovers Killed By Lightning Ashville N.C. Aug. 7. Intelligence has reached here of a fatal accident by lightning Sunday night at Catawba on the Western North Carolina road. James Trollinger, aged twenty-one and Miss Addie Reed, aged eighteen, were waiting in the latter's house for the thunder storm to pass over when lightning struck the house and running down the chimney instantly instantly killed both of them, besides badly shocking others in the room. The shoes were torn entirely off Miss Reed's feet and her clothing was set on fire. Both Trollinger and Miss Reed were prominent and popular in social circles. |

7978 | Lyon Harrill Vows Are Solemnized Special to The Observer MOORESVILLE Dec 18The wedding of Miss Sara Elizabeth Harrill daughter of Mrs. James A. Harrill and the late James Albert Harrill of this city and William Adair Lyon son of Dr. and Mrs. Scott Cary Lyon of Davidson was solemnized this morning at 11 o'clock at the home of the bride's mother with Rev. C. H. Myers officiating. Prior to the ceremony Mrs. Eugene Johnston pianist played and Mrs. R. Dewey Farrell of Greensboro sang The bride and bridegroom entered together The bride wore a three-piece wool suit of Dubonnet with a collar of Canadian lynx. Her off the face hat with short veil was slate blue as were her other accessories. A shoulder corsage of Narca orchids completed the costume. After the ceremony Mrs. Harrill entertained the out-of-town guests and members of the families at a buffet luncheon. After a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Lyon will make their home in Concord. Mrs. Lyon attended Meredith college and Greensboro college at Greensboro where she was graduated. She was vice president of the students association secretary of her class and chief marshal. Mr Lyon was graduated from Battleground academy in Franklin Tenn. and from Davidson College. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and of the Scabbard and Blade military honorary fraternity. He is now connected with the Cannon mills at Kannapolis. |
