201 | CORSE, John Family Source: Iva Lewis Obituary Scrapbook A MYSTERY CLEARED Among the early settlers of this county was John Corse, a prominent citizen who lived at the old Hinds mill. He had three daughters. Mr. Corse died and some time afterwards his wife married again. One night the oldest girl, Lydia, and her sister, Eliza, were sleeping up stairs and in the morning when their mother called them Lydia awoke and thinking her sister had already arose, went down stairs. Her mother enquired for Eliza and they thinking she had gone out doors, prepared breakfast, and called for her. They had just begun to become alarmed when Mr. McGonigal (Mrs. Corse's second husband) came in with a note written in Eliza's hand writing, that he said he found under the scoop shovel in the wagon. It said for her mother not to worry about her as she was going where she would be treated right. That was the last heard of the girl. Excitement was high and there were many reports of a sensational nature. The family left here soon afterward and the mysterious disapearence of Eliza Corse has often been discussed by the older settlers. Recently the younger daughter found her sister and not knowing that Uncle Bob Coats was dead wrote him the following letter, which explains all: . OSKALOOSA, IOWA, Oct. 13, '99. Mr. W. R. COATS, Veedersburg, Dear Friend: I suppose you will be surprised on receiving this. I will tell you who I am. I am a daughter of John Corse, who was a neighbor of your father's for several years. I am the one younger than Lydia. The reason I write to you is to clear up a mystery in connection with my sister Eliza. She left home very mysteriously in 1853 and we never heard a word from her until a short time ago. She left her home and was married to a young man by the name of Jason Brown, known by the nickname of "Jim" Brown, who lived near Covington, in the same neighberhood that Joseph Evans lived. They went to Illinois and lived there until 1856, when they moved to Missouri and have lived in Schuyler county ever since. It is not a hundred miles from where we have lived since 1856, and we never heard a word of her in all these long years. I think the reason she never wrote was because Brown got very mad at my stepfather, Charles McGonigal, and he never got over it. Eliza died in March, 1897 and Brown died last January. They never had bat one child, a daughter, and after her father died she began to hunt us. She had a time of it, but finally through the post master found J. H Evans at ??.. us. She is married and has a son 19 years old. Her name is Dora Bunch, her address is Lancaster Mo. She went to Burlington and made Evans a visit and Evans came with her and they made me a visit and just left a few days ago. Dora is finely educated and very much of a lady. They are well to do, have plenty of property. Eliza has been a member of the Christian Church for thirty or forty years. Dora says Eliza lived as clean, pure a life as any woman ever did. She was willing to die and she thinks she is in Heaven. Dora and her son are members of the Christian church. We were so glad to hear from Eliza, if it had been so long. My brother, Will Corse, died in California last November. He was thrown from a horse and injured internally and only lived three or four days afterward J. H. Evans looks young and is quite spry on foot; he is nearly 80. I have two children, a boy and a girl. I will send you my photo soon and see if you remember me. My brother, Daniel, is in Kansas City Mo.; he never married. If there is anyone in your place who remembers us and would like to hear tell them what I have written. If you care to hear more if you will write I will answer you. I am Your Friend, JENNIE CORSE MENDENHALL. ? jlr Citation: The INGenWeb Project, Copyright ©1997-2020 (and beyond), Fountain County GenWeb site http://www.ingenweb.org/infountain/ | Corse, John NMN (I13023)

204 | David Lynn Trolinger, 64, of Springdale, Arkansas passed away peacefully on August 13, 2021. David was born February 22, 1957 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He was a resident of Springdale for most of his life. He was a friend to many and never met a stranger. In younger years, he spent much of his free time coaching the sports teams of his sons. He was a proud father and grandfather, always supporting anything his kids and grandkids were involved in. He loved spending time in the woods in his deer stand. Anytime family was gathered, you could bet David would be there visiting and sharing stories. Over the last few years, he grew in his faith and began a ministry in which he and others would go support members of the church and community with needs around their homes. He had also started working with the youth and felt a heart for supporting teenagers and being an example of "showing up". He is preceded in death by his parents William "Bill" Trolinger and Eula Mae Eaton Trolinger. He is survived by his wife Rhonda Trolinger of the home; son Shane, wife Gail and their daughter Janis Mae; son Dwaine, wife Larissa and their children Scott, Matthew, Rowdy and Mackinzey; daughter Jennifer, husband Larry, and their children Madison, Tyler, Donnie and Bryson; son Justin, wife Shawna, and their children Maycee and Jace; daughter Kelli, husband Brenton, and their children Riley, Caeden, Silas and Harper Cordelia; son Blake, wife Sarah, and their children Andy, Landon, Serenity and Otis; sisters Doris Jean, Cathy, Joyce and her husband Rick. He was also uncle to many nieces and nephews, and was a mentor to many. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home, 3926 Willlowood Ave., Springdale, Arkansas 72762. A Celebration of Life officiated by Pastors Aaron Matthews, Ben Rowell and Brian Mattingly will be Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Lowell, interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Preston Yeakley, Colby Post, Derek Mounce, Steven Castleman, Josh Robinson and Bill Winters. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Cook, Bob Eaton and Raymond Trolinger. 206 | Del Trolinder was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame as a song writer and singer. He's famous for many songs from the 1950s and 60s, but he is best known as a song writer. Recently, he gave one of his prized guitars away to his great-granddaughter, Mia Klopfenstein, in hopes that she would learn the guitar. In this recording, he talks about how he learned the guitar and what music means to him. "If you want to learn how to play, you'll learn. It doesn't matter if there are people around or anything. You'll find a way." | Trolinder, Delbert Dwaine "Del" (I27039)

211 | Diana's father had southern roots and so did her husband. Henry was born in South Carolina in 1818 as were his parents. Diana and Henry began their married life in Wabash County, naming their first child after her brother Mathias. Diana and her brother must have been close friends as well as siblings because Mathias named a daughter after Diana. In fact he named her Diana Courll which led early family researchers to believe his wife was a Courll. Imagine their surprise when they discovered his daughter carried the married name of his sister. There are no deed records for the Courlls in Wabash County and tax records are inaccessible, so no record there pinpoints their peripatetic movements between Indiana and Illinois. Although they lived in Fulton County, Illinois in 1850, their first child was born in Indiana. No problem there; they could have moved after his birth in 1849. The 1860 census provides a clue because their daughter Emma who was three years old was born in Iowa, so they were in Iowa at least by 1856 or 1857. But the children born in 1851 and 1854 were born in Indiana. Dianna may have gone home to have these children, but Fulton County where they lived in 1850 is about 250 miles from Wabash County, Indiana, a long trip for a pregnant woman and her children in the 1850's. Henry, a teamster, owned property worth $200 in 1860. That would suggest that he had a small home in a rural town. Also in the household is another teamster, John R. Courll, age 24. He is probably Henry's brother as he lived with the family in 1850, too. The family's whereabouts in 1870 is unknown, but in 1878 Henry paid taxes in Dwight Township, Livingston County, Illinois, and they lived next door to son Mathias. In 1880 only one child is still at home, twelve year old John H., birthplace Illinois. At that time Mathias, Diana's brother, was in Greenfield Township, Grundy County, on the border with Livingston County. Henry did not buy property until 1881 and then he only bought an acre in Dwight. Henry had been farming since his youth and at age 63 he was probably more interested in a garden than a farm. Additionally, he may not have had the money to buy land here. The central Illinois counties of Grundy, Livingston, and McLean were recognized as some of the richest farming land in the country. Land there has always been expensive; not only was it productive land, it was prairie land that did not have to be cleared of great stands of timber. Even though family farms are on the wane in these counties today, land is still expensive with small farms regularly selling for thousands per acre. The Lexington Genealogical and Historical Society in Livingston County is an active association spearheaded by a one-woman dynamo whose mission is to record every burial in every cemetery in Livingston County and its contiguous counties of McLean and Woodford. The society owns a tiny brick building in Lexington in which there are rows of file cabinets, some card file size, some legal size. Every burial is recorded on a card and cross-indexed with records in the vertical files. A thorough examination of those records in 1999 was a fruitless search for the deaths and burials of the Courlls although family tradition says the Courlls are buried in Round Grove Cemetery, Livingston County. Henry was dead by 1892 because Dianna is identified as a widow when she sold their acre in Dwight Township. Neither Dianna nor Henry's names are in the death records in Livingston County, nor are they in the Grundy County records. Will County severely restrict access to their marriage, birth, and death records, and so far no access to any of those has been granted. They may lived with one of their daughters when they died. The Illinois Statewide Death Index covers the years 1916-1950 and of course, Henry is not there, but neither is Dianna. Their death dates remain unknown. 212 | Does your German family tree seem to be overloaded with Johanns and Marias? German children were given two names. Boys commonly were baptized with the first name Johannes (or Johann, often abbreviated Joh). German girls were baptized Maria, Anna or Anna Maria. This tradition started in the Middle Ages. So a family could have five boys with the first name Johann. You can see the potential for confusion until you understand that the first name doesn't mean a thing. This is because German boys almost always were baptized with the first name Johannes (or Johann, abbreviated Joh). German girls were baptized Maria, Anna or Anna Maria. (This tradition started in the Middle Ages.) This means a family could (and commonly did) have five boys with the first name Johann. You can see the high potential for confusion until you understand that the first name doesn't mean a thing. Second Naming Tradition The second name, known as the Rufname, along with the surname is what would be used in marriage, tax, land and death records. So in a family with boys Johann Friedrich, Johann Peter, Johann Daniel, etc., the children would be called by (and recorded in documents as as) Friedrich, Peter and Daniel. Usually, the name Johannes in these records marked a ?true John? who would continue to be so identified. By the 19th century, more Germans gave their children three names. Again, typically only one of the middle names was used throughout the person's life. Roman Catholics often used saints' names, while most Protestant groups also included names from the Old Testament or even nonChristian mythology. Nicknames Another naming tradition involves nicknames, often called Kurzformen. In English, most nicknames are created by dropping the last syllable of the given name (for example, Christoper and Christine become "Chris"). Germans, however, often shorten a given name by dropping the first part of it. It's important to note that these familiar forms are used in church or other records, even though by today's standards we might expect full or formal names to be used. Some of the many examples (using more authentic but understandable German spellings) are: Nicklaus = Klaus Sebastian = Bastian Christophel = Stophel Christina = Stin or Stina Katharina = Trin Note that these familiar forms are used in church or other records, even though by today's standards we might expect formal names to be used. First daughter received the name of the maternal grandmother. Second daughter received the name of the paternal grandmother. However, such naming patterns were not consistently or universally followed in all of Germany. | Drollinger, Adam (I803)

219 | elected as Governer of Virginia 1922 and 1926. He was President Shenandoah Life Insurance Company in Roanoke. He was elected President VA State Board of Education in Richmond. Governor of Virginia. A member of one of Virginia's most prominent families and usually known as E. Lee Trinkle or Lee Trinkle, he attended Wytheville Military Academy and received bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees from Hampden-Sydney College in 1895. In 1898 he graduated from the University of Virginia Law School, and then began practicing law in Wytheville. He was also active in several business ventures, including Roanoke's Shenandoah Life Insurance Company, where he served as Vice President from 1916 to 1933, and President from 1933 until his death. Trinkle served in the Virginia Senate from 1913 to 1921. In 1921 he was the successful Democratic nominee for Governor, and from 1922 to 1926 served the one term allowed by law. His term was marked by an extensive road building program and improvements to the state prison system. After leaving office he returned to practicing law and remained active in government and higher learning, serving as President of the Virginia Board of Education from 1930 until his death and a member of the Hampden-Sydney College Board of Trustees. The Virginia Tourism Corporation's regional visitors center in Wytheville is named for him. Virginia State University's Trinkle Hall, a residence building for female students, was also named in his honor. (bio by: Bill McKern) ELBERT LEE TRINKLE was born in Wytheville, Virginia. He attended Wytheville Military Academy and received both A.B. and B.S. degrees from Hampden-Sydney College in 1895, winning medals for oratory and debate. In 1898 he received an LL.B. from the University of Virginia Law School, where he was awarded the Moot Court prize, his law school class's highest honor. He went on to practice law in Wytheville and was a partner in Trinkle Brothers, a farming company. He was one of the organizers of the Shenandoah Life Insurance Company in Roanoke, serving as first vice president from 1916 to 1933, and then as president until his death. Prior to being elected governor, he was a member of the Virginia State Senate from 1915 to 1920. During his gubernatorial term, he was active in the National Governors Association, serving as Chairman of the Executive Committee. Initially a supporter of using bond financing for highway construction, he was eventually forced to place all state institutions on a pay-as-you-go basis, including the highway department, resulting in the financing of a road building program by gasoline and auto taxes rather than by bonds. During his administration, lawmakers raised public school teaching standards by adopting stricter licensing requirements and encouraging summer courses. Trinkle also received a medal from the National Committee on Prisons and Prison Labor for supporting the exchange of prison-made goods between prisons of the various states. After leaving office, he served in a number of public and private capacities, among them president of the Virginia State Board of Education from 1930 until his death and president of the Children's Home Society of Southwestern Virginia from 1935 to 1938. My half-brother was born that Fall. During this time Aunt Sallie and Uncle Albert gave her much comfort and love. W. J. Trollinger II was born in their home. The store and home was sold and my mother and new baby moved in with Uncle George and Aunt Sallie alternatively until my mother's stepmother lost her health and the stepmother went home to live with two old maid sisters. My mother went back home to take care of her father as she had done at the age of 15. Mother was a widow for twelve years." and also "In the year 1897 my Uncle Tom Burton, who was married to Margaret Trollinger, came home to live. 223 | Eye-witness account of Lightening strike that killed J. A. Trollinger by Nancy Lee Burton Trollinger McMullen: "Another one of the stories that is a favorite of my children was a time in her life [Nancy Lee Burton Trollinger] just before "Young Will" was born. One Sunday night at Uncle Albert's and Aunt Sallie's, friends and relatives had stopped in from church which was about 600 yards across the street from the house. There was a terrific storm brewing. The room in which they were gathered had a fireplace with a window on each side. Lightning struck the chimney and Addie Reid, Sallie's daughter, and the young man to whom she was engaged [J.A. Trollinger] was sitting by the fireplace, and were instantly killed. The lightning set fire to the curtains and to Addie's skirt. My mother and Uncle Albert blistered their hands rubbing out the flames. The young man was knocked from his chair but not so Addie. Her high button shoes were ripped at the seam just as though each stitch had been cut with a knife. When she was lifted from her chair, her shoes fell from her feet. She was wearing, as was the custom in the 1800's, a corset of steel stays. At the end of each stay there was a drop of steel. A double funeral was held for the two and they were buried side by side" told by Nancy Bee McMullen Lea Boone daughter of Nancy Lee Burton Trollnger in Burton Our Ancestry Caswell County 1793 to 1978 | Burton, Nancy Lee "Nannie" (I21355)

231 | From: Richard Hessler Date: Wed, May 10, 2017 at 2:04 PM Subject: Princess White Cloud Trollinger debunked To: Beth Trollinger Hi Beth, Thank you for the pdf from the Trollinger cousin lady in Myrtle Beach, SC. I have had Samantha Jane Trollinger in my files for 15-20 years along with her parents, cousins, and how she connects to my line of descent. I pieced this together from reviewing ALL SC Trollinger census records from 1810 through 1920. I think I can help you to unsnarl her story. First, Samantha Jane Trollinger is descended from a Bomar Trollinger who was descended from a William Trollinger, but I believe Gracie Howell latched on to the wrong Bomar Trollinger, took a left turn, and ended up back in Haw River, NC several generations sooner than she should have. You can follow my line of ancestry for Samantha Jane Trollinger on the ancestor chart or the group sheets or the GEDCOM for her and all ancestors and descendants of those ancestors. Note: I have her in my records and knew she married a Mr. Keasler, but did not know his given name. Second, the Princess White Cloud story I suspect from a now deceased researcher Mary Trollinger of Atlanta. She was born about 1920, I talked to her and gave her my records about 20-22 years ago in 1995-1997. The Indian princess story was told to me by my late half grand aunt Louise Trollinger Mitchell Miller between when I tracked her down in 1995 and her death in 2003. She heard that story from her father John Marcus Trollinger who was the son of Albert Bomar Trollinger who was married to the "Indian Princess". Aunt Louise said her name was Destiny and that her father said she had left her children with her husband and returned to live among her people. My guess is Mary Georgia Pittman Trollinger (wife of Raymond Edgar Trollinger) heard the story from her father-in-law Thomas Benjamin Trollinger who was a son from the THIRD marriage of Albert Bomar Trollinger. All that is clear is that Albert Bomar Trollinger and his first wife had four children. They were not married in 1860, on 1870 Haywood Co., NC census his was listed as Julia Trollinger. On the 1880 census, Albert Bomar Trollinger and wife Julia Trollinger were no longer living together. He moved to Franklin Co., GA near where their four children lived with his mother Emmeline Mahulda Trollinger Morrison and near where his second or common law wife Mary Payne lived with her parents and their three children bearing the Payne surname, evidently born out of wedlock but all three of which later used the surname Trollinger, post marriage or just took their father's last name. Meantime, back in Spartanburg Co., SC, Julia Ann Trollinger lived with the Bishop family and cared for elderly, invalid Mrs. Bishop who died in 1884, left land to Julia Ann Trollinger, via Mrs. Bishop's son by her first marriage. Julia Ann Trollinger then married the widower Mr. Henry Jefferson Bishop on 20 Feb 1885. Julia Ann Trollinger four children's names are recorded in the Bishop family bible. Through my ancestry.com DNA test, I have identified two direct ancestors in Spartanburg Co., SC unknown to me prior to 2016: James H. Ezell and his wife Artimissa Scruggs Dobbins. I believe they are the parents of Julia Ann Trollinger. They had a daughter same age as Julia Ann of the nickname Nancy used for given name Ann who lived on the next farm over from the old patriarch Samuel Trollinger. Further, my Native American DNA percentage is in the 0.0 to 1.0% range as is my mother's. There is none with my father's DNA. My mother's great grandmother Julia Ann (Ezell?) Trollinger Bishop was 1/8th of my mother's DNA. My mother has another putative Indian princess on her mother's side, but point is: 1/8th is 12.5% so whatever Native American DNA Julia Ann might have had could only have been very small to be diluted to less than 1.0% for my mother. DNA does not support Julia Ann being an Indian princess or any more than 1/16th herself to pass along at most 1.0% to my mother. Finally, no telling why Albert Bomar and Julia Ann went their separate ways, but she stayed in Spartanburg Co., SC to whence they had returned from their brief residence in Haywood Co., NC from sometime after 1866 and sometime before 1871. It was Albert Bomar Trollinger and his mother Hulda Morrison who bugged out with the four children to Franklin Co., GA when the children were all rather young. What happened to pry four young children away from their mother to be placed with their paternal grandmother; who knows, but no doubt that there was some kind of major dust up. Attached are photos of Albert Bomar Trollinger and Julia Ann Trollinger in the possession of my cousin Jerry Mitchell of Crandall, GA near Chatsworth whose mother was Louise Trollinger. Included are photos of other names in the story above. I'd be happy to walk you through this over the phone one evening. 232 | From: Richard Hessler Date: Wed, May 10, 2017 at 2:04 PM Subject: Princess White Cloud Trollinger debunked To: Beth Trollinger Cc: "Drollinger, Gordon L." Hi Beth, Thank you for the pdf from the Trollinger cousin lady in Myrtle Beach, SC. ?I have had Samantha Jane Trollinger in my files for 15-20 years along with her parents, cousins, and how she connects to my line of descent. I pieced this together from reviewing ALL SC Trollinger census records from 1810 through 1920.? I think I can help you to? unsnarl her story. First, ?Samantha Jane Trollinger is descended from a Bomar Trollinger who was descended from a William Trollinger, but I believe? Gracie Howell latched on to the wrong Bomar Trollinger, took a left turn, and ended up back in Haw River, NC several generations sooner than she should have. 246 | I corresponded with Ruth in the early 1980s while I was stationed in Aschaffenberg 1982 to 1985. I'm not sure where she got my address from, possibly "Everton's genealogical helper" a now defunct publication or one of the Augustan Society's publications. I sent her a copy of the Familian Register from Ellmendingen that pleased her no end. It was through her I corresponded with the late Alan Trullinger of Carrington SD. He was a delightful man who worked on his Ds and Ts and whose typewriter couldn't spell. (An inside joke between us) Ruth and I corresponded for a while and she got a lot of data for me from my Ullmann and Vogel lines in Lollar and Mainzlar Hessen. Unfortunately she had the misfortune of running into some health problems that left me hanging on a Johannes Schupp. We did continue to correspond even though she was not able to do further work.
