45360 | Son of Fred & Rose (Drollinger) Steinmann. Married Florence "Violet" Reedholm. They had one son. Fred was born in Switzerland and came to America with his parents and younger sister through Ellis Island when he was seven years of age. They went to Chicago where his parents worked for an affluent Swiss immigrant. The community and the Lutheran church they attended were German-speaking. Fred's father was a praying man and invited Fred to an old-fashioned revival meeting where he was born again; at twenty-two. He later was filled with the Holy Spirit and at that time received the call to preach. By June of 1937 cancerous tumors had taken their toll on his body and his physician told him he wouldn't live past two hours. Realizing that life was ebbing away from his body and being too far from any healing ministers to have hands laid on him in prayer, in faith he put God's word in his own mouth rebuking the cancer and the profuse bleeding. When he did, the tumors flattened, the bleeding stopped, and the paralysis left. His son, Fred Jr. said Fred Sr. began his ministry in the slums of Chicago around 30th and State Streets. He was preaching in missions, and living there. It was at the height of the depression and no one had any money; no salary or anything. His dad was a giver. In the early 1960's Steinmann started mentoring younger preachers. One young minister that trained under Fred Sr. said: Brother Steinmann came to Colorado for a season to take over the Church that Kathryn Kuhlman was leaving-Denver Revival Tabernacle. Steinmann was also was well acquainted and connected with Bro. Patterson who started the Radio Prayer League at 37th & Gilpin. Brother Patterson was heavily involved in Radio Ministry. Dave continues: Bro. Steinmann didn't really want to be a Pastor; he was an Evangelist. He went to Gordon Peterson's church in MN and they ended up having a nineteen week revival. The meeting was held morning and night all of those weeks. From that came the first live televised church service in the United States. He also mentored and ministered with evangelist F.F. Bosworth who had a miracle/healing ministry; being closely involved with the Healing revival of the late 40?s and 50?s in the USA. Miracles were the norm in his ministry. Besides ministering as an evangelist as he would transverse the states in his Cortez motor home, Brother Steinmann was anointed to operate in the ministry of the prophet. He deeply impacted many lives just as Christ had impacted his when He appeared to him in the barn after he was born again. Fred was discouraged about some situations. As he lifted his fork into the stack of hay he was pitching, a large beautiful rose appeared above the stack. The petals began to open up and tongues of fire shot up to the top of the barn. Out of the rose walked Christ Jesus speaking to Fred saying, "Go preach the Gospel and I will be with you." Fred agreed and with that, Jesus vanished. The eyes of Jesus were like deep wells of love and they were blue. | Steinmann, Rev Fred James Sr. (I38807)
