54619 | Victor's middle name may be George in honor of his mother's father. It is also possible Victor's middle name is Grubbs in honor of his mother's mother, Rebecca Grubbs-Swisher. Victor's middle name may also be Grover in honor of his father's half brother. Another possibility is Girman. If so, it then could be that Girmon Lavon Drollinger was named in his memory. South Park and South Park Annex Cemetery Columbia Township Whitley County Indiana WHITLEY COUNTY CEMETERIES Genealogy Society of Whitley County .:|:. Whitley County Historical Society .:|:. Bottom of Page While every effort has been made to have these records as complete and as accurate as possible errors can happen. Please advise if any errors are noted or corrections necessary. South Park and South Park Annex CEMETERY These two cemeteries are located in Columbia Township, Whitley County, 1500S State Road 205 South of Columbia City Indiana on State Road 205 South Park is owned and cared for by the Columbia Township Trustee. South Park Annex is owned and cared for by private owners. Although two separate cemeteries, they are adjacent to one another. Heading South from Columbia City, South Park Annex is the first with three sections and a horse shoe driveway. The first drive is at the north side of the cemetery, running East and West and separating Section C from Section B. The South driveway separates Section B from Section A. There are no roads to connect this Annex to South Park Cemetery In talking to the manager of the Annex, he told me where the sections were and where the line is ending the Annex cemetery to the South. He said the South row of trees were the line. After working the cemetery, we find that there seems to be an old roadway between the two cemeteries so it is not as difficult as one would think. Section A, B and C go East to West back to the fence row as we read it. This has however been changed to the fence row to read Section D. In this cemetery, the first stones and the Mausoleums started row 13. We therefore started listing stones at row 13. We personally have our stone in Section C and are in row 36. There rows do not seem to be directly across from each other completely across the cemetery. Any mistake would be our fault, but since this is the first time in several years that the stones have been recorded, and the manager only has who the lot is sold to (these may be different from who is buried in that lot.) We apologize for any problems caused. When looking for a stone and using the information given here, at the end you will see South Park Annex B-13-16. This stands for Section B- Row 13-Stone 16. Stone numbers will now vary due to recent burials in that row. SOUTH PARK This cemetery has four sections with 3 driveways. The first drive is at the north side of the cemetery, running East and West and separating Section 1 from Section 2. The middle driveway separates Section 2 from Section 3 and the South driveway is next to Smith Section. We started reading next to the Highway or the East end numbering the rows starting at Row 1 When looking for a stone and using the information given here, at the end you will see South Park 1-13-16. This stands for Section 1-Row 13- Stone 16 Stone numbers will now vary due to recent burials in that row. Additional information and alphabetical listings to the end of 1999 for these two cemeteries, can be found in two books "The End of the Century" at the Genealogical Society room at the Whitley County Historical Museum. 54649 | Viola Esther Martin-Mecum was a genealogist as well as her daughter,Susan. I had corresponded with Viola back in the days of snail mail. Gordon L. Drollinger Palo Verde Valley Times, Blythe, California Viola Esther (Martin) Mecum, 94, a Blythe resident, passed away on Aug. 14, 2012. She was born Dec. 3, 1917 in Pasadena, Calif. In 1933, the Great Depression caused her parents, Leander and Velma Martin, to move from Pasadena to Blythe with their three daughters, Viola, Winifred (Mansperger), and Ruth (Roberts), first establishing residence on land homesteaded by Velma's parents, William and Viola Harding. Viola's parents farmed in Blythe for many years with their daughters all graduating from Blythe High. The family were members of the Community United Methodist Church in Blythe. Viola attended college in Compton where she met her husband, Vernon Mecum, who later worked as a skilled tool and die machinist/designer. They made their home in Stockton, Calif., where they raised their children; (spouses), Lee (Suzanne), Debbie, Susan (Dan), Genie (Elwin), and Ellen (Preston). Viola has seven grandchildren, Caitlin (Raja), Diana (Mark), Megan (Matt), Paul (Crystal), Philip, Hannah (deceased 1990); and Michael (Lysa). Her beloved "Joe" was killed in 2008. Viola also leaves behind five great grandchildren, Alisia, Victoria, Matthew, Carson, and Chiara. Vernon passed away in Blythe in 1990, and several years later Viola began permanently residing in a house in Blythe her parents built for themselves. Viola loved Blythe and wanted to live here always. She moved to Blythe as a teenager and her heart never left this wonderful community. Viola's interests were "rock hounding" with gem and mineral collecting, and lapidary. She was a voracious reader who traveled worldwide and throughout the USA. She also developed a passion for genealogy and in 2010, Viola and Susan published a Mecum and Martin family history book, tracing their family's American linage to the Mayflower. Viola was a DAR member. Like many of her generation, Viola was a progressive modernist who ardently believed in equal rights and opportunity for women. She was very independent, believed in advanced education, and strove to ensure that each of her children and grandchildren could attend college. She was a thoughtful and caring mother who took pride in her children's accomplishments, sustaining her family for over seventy years. Services for Viola will be held Aug. 30, 2012, at Mountain View Cemetery, 2400 N. Fair Oaks Ave, Altadena, Calif. at 11 a.m. for our gathering, remembrances, and farewells. Internment services will be at noon. Velma Martin in the U.S., Presbyterian Church Records, 1701-1970 Name: Velma Martin Gender: Female Spouse: L. J.
