5508 | Ann Elizabeth (Woodward) Chandler passed away May 22, 2022, in Warrensburg, Missouri. She was born on June 27, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa the daughter of Gilbert Alanson Woodward and Selina Edith (MacDonald) Woodward. She married Robert "Bob" Lloyd Ross in 1949. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2015. Ann met her "Prince Charming" Harold "Hap" George Lloyd Chandler, and were married on February 13, 1986, in Richland, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. They greatly enjoyed traveling the world, attending dinner theaters and participating in resort activities where they made many friends. For several years Ann and Hap both volunteered at the Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona. She worked in the office as a bookkeeper and hostess. Ann loved to garden and grow flowers. She and Hap organized materials, supplies and workers to plant flowers in planters for the bridges in Plainwell, Michigan, a program that the city took over after a few years. She loved playing games (was very competitive) and greatly enjoyed crafting, sewing, needle-point, and singing with the Sweet Adelines in Michigan and the Bell Tones in Arizona. Ann and Hap enjoyed building stained glass panels for the windows in their home, churches, and other places. Many of these pieces are now with their children, grandchildren and friends. In 2015, Ann and Hap moved to Missouri and lived in Sedalia before moving to Warrensburg where they lived until Ann passed. She is survived by eight children ? Gale and Barbara (Trolinger) Ross of Missouri, Lisa Ross of Arizona, Deborah (Ross) and Bill Longacre of Michigan, and Robert and Lisa Ross of Wisconsin, Karen (Chandler) Soliday of Michigan, Scott and Deb Chandler of Kentucky, Todd and Mary Chandler of New York, Sue (Chandler) and Maury Willows of North Dakota; grandchildren ? 5523 | Ann's true first name may well be Hannah. In the biographical sketches of the Schimpf family regarding Jacob (see excerpt below) she is identified as 'Hannah Drollinger'. Also, her father's mother was named Hannah, so it seems entirely likely that Hannah could be her true first name and that she was named in her honor as it was a very common tradition of the day and that for whatever reason, she simply chose to go by the name of Ann, a nickname of Hannah. Biographical sketches of the Schimpf family "At an early age Jacob went west, and secured work on a farm in La Porte County, IN, where he met his wife and he was married on 22 Feb 1838, to Hannah Drollinger by the Reverand John Bowell of La Porte, she was born 16 June 1810. They settled after their marriage in Olive Township, St Joseph County and there were four children ..." | Druliner, Ann (I22533)

5528 | Anna and Stephen, living right next door to her parents, started putting down roots in Randolph County, Indiana. It's likely that all but the youngest of their children were born in Randolph County, but for only one is there certain evidence. Riley was just two years old when he was enumerated on the 1860 census, right next door to his Drullinger grandparents. His Grandfather Aaron had purchased land in and around Bartonia, Randolph County, and they lived either on the edge of Bartonia or in the town itself. When Aaron and Elizabeth moved the Michigan in 1863, the Zimmermans remained in Indiana as did Anna's sister Milly. The lure of family was strong, however, and sometime between daughter Dora's birth in 1867 in Indiana and son Charles's birth in Michigan in 1872, off they went to Van Buren County, Michigan. Perhaps they were in transit when the 1870 census was taken; whatever the reason, they have not been found anywhere in 1870. They have not been located through a name-by-name search of either Randolph County, Indiana, or Van Buren County, Michigan, nor are they on the nationawide 1870 index available through ProQuest. Stephen did not have the same occupation throughout his life. He was a carpenter with $400 of personal property when he and Anna married. According to his son Charles's birth record, he was a shoemaker in Michigan. This may have been an interim trade, taken up before he had any property in Michigan. Or it might have been something he did in the winter while the fields were dormant because he was listed as a farmer in 1880 and 1900. The largest landholder in Keeler township where Stephen's in-laws lived was Charles Duncombe who was a tanner, currier, and shoemaker by trade. He farmed three seasons of the year, but in the off season tended his other businesses. Stephen may have worked for him or been employed at the boot and shoe shop in Hartford village. After Stephen's death of "acute proctitis" in 1906, Anne went to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary J. and Byron J. Aldo. Anna died there two days before Christmas, 1916. Anna and Stephen's burial places are unknown. Kay Germain Ingalls 2003 | Drullinger, Anna "Anne" (I5043)
