55870 Wendell Kreder, Sr.
August 17, 1927 - May 12, 2013

Wendell D. Kreder Sr., 85, of Jefferson died Sunday at the Mennonite Home in Albany. He was born in Mexico, Missouri to Carl H. Kreder and Minnie O. Fisher Kreder. In 1935 his family moved to Oregon settling in the Carlton/ McMinnville area.

In 1947 he married Dorothy M. Druliner. They started their life together on a farm in Carlton. Soon 2 sons and a daughter joined the family.

Throughout his career Wendell was uncompromising in the details of his work. Wendell was truly a visionary and an entrepreneur.

Wendell moved his family to Independence in 1964, soon after he began to grow peppermint, being an irrigated crop and part of his new farm being dry land he built what is referred to as the Wendell Kreder Reservoir in Polk County (which can be seen on the internet) for the purpose of irrigating 150 acres. In 1974 on a newly purchased property in Jefferson he was among one of the first farmers to utilize Center Pivot Irrigation in the Willamette Valley.

As his career continued Wendell became involved in all facets of the peppermint industry, including the propagation and sales of peppermint roots, and introduction and manufacturing of portable peppermint distilleries throughout Oregon. Later in his working years he represented a Mid Western Company as a field representative for contracting, purchasing, receiving and shipping peppermint oil from the Willamette Valley.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy; children Wendell (Butch) Jr. of Jefferson, and Linda Westbrook and Jeffery Kreder of Albany; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sisters Ilene Hougham of Yreka, Ca. and Ruby Lucas of Medford Or. A brother, Carl H. Kreder Jr., and sisters Marjorie Spooner and Myrtie Mehlhoff preceded him in death.

Viewing will be from 4-6pm Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be at 11am Friday at Talbot Community Church. Private interment will be at Willamette Memorial Park. Online condolences for the family may be posted at www.fisherfuneralhome.com.

55878 Went by "Vance". Vance's biological father (surname: Ludlow) is the same person as Danton's father and like Danton, Vance also changed his name to Drollinger, as confessed to me by Kathi (Smith) Fletcher (dau. of Clella Ruth (Drollinger) Smith during our first conversation on 24 Sep 2005. Kathi is supposed to send me the birth name of their biological father and the circumstances surrounding his and Hazel's relationship.
(David H. Drollinger 24 Sep 2005)

Ref my "Clella Ruth Drollinger" electronic genealogy file for a copy of Vance's obit.
(David H. Drollinger 30 Jan 2007)

David H. Drollinger - Would you mind filling me in a bit on the circumstances surrounding their parentage unless it's none of my business of course?!! Basically, I was just wanting to know if Hazel and their father were ever married and if so, when and where (you know how these genealogy programs are)?
Kathi Fletcher - Read in ?Hazels? newsletter on page 5 ? middle column. Also, review in ?Buds? newsletter page 3 the bottom of column 1 for divorce info. There isn?t much info as to why Harvey left. Only a few words mom mentioned to me that she remembers. As Harvey was leaving Hazel was begging him to stay. He never looked back. Walked out on Hazel, his two boys and the other 5 children Hazel had when they were married. No other information has ever been provided to mom.
David H. Drollinger - And, why did the two boys legally change their names to "Drollinger" (this is more for my sense of curiosity!)?
Kathi Fletcher - Not much information on this either. Read in ?Hazels? newsletter on page 5 ? 3rd column ? 2nd paragraph. For more information you will need to contact Danny. His address is in ?Buds? newsletter.

Explanation regarding the 1930 Census naming Mary as the wife of Cecil:

subject: Cecil John Drollinger married to Mary
Hi again, Richard!
I just happened to notice in your father's record a 1930 Census (see below) that I had notated back in 2008 where it lists a wife of your father's as Mary.
Now I'm confused again. Did the enumerator incorrectly write 'Mary' instead of Norma?
Or, is Mary part of your mother's birth name or is Mary a different person?
Isn't your mother's actual birth name, 'Norma Delone Harris'?

That's a good question....I don't know what happened either. It would seem to me the enumerator made a mistake. This is what I was talking about in my previous e-mail. I can't even find a census record for him in the 1920's either. I can find my mother with her parents, but I haven't been able to locate a 1920 census record for my dad. The entry you cite in your e-mail is erroneous, because my dad was 18 years old when he and my mother were married and my mother was 17 years old. Mary was the name of my dad's mother. I don't know what happened. Also, in 1930 my parent already had four living children and two deceased children which the record doesn't show.
Additionally, I have a source showing their marriage as November 24, 1920, at Rigby, Jefferson, Idaho, United States with Wilford Thomas Harris and Christina Janet Harris (my mother's parents since she was under marriageable age) as witnesses and giving parental permission for the marriage. [end]
