| 5658 | Anne's brother's obit: December 31, 2002 BRUCE W. KOLLMAR Bruce W. Kollmar left this world to be with his Lord Dec. 21, 2002. He was a bright spot in the lives of many, making a lasting and significant impact on others. How do we sum up his life on just apiece of paper? To begin with, Bruce was born in 1928, and raised at Sunnyside, WA. He suffered a great loss at age 10, when his father died, followed by the family home burning to the ground at the Christmas holidays. His mother decided to stay on, managing their asparagus farm with much help from her children. Following his graduation from Sunnyside High School in 1946, he enlisted in the Air Force and played in the 724th Air Force Band at Mather Field, Sacramento, CA. After three years there, he attended Central Washington College of Education on the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1953 with a BA in music education. His first teaching assignment was in the Brewster School District, where he taught music for four years, then moved his family to Stanwood in 1957. From then on, students from elementary to high school in Stanwood received an excellent and well-grounded musical education. Bruce retired in June 1983, and a scant three months later, had unexpected heart bypass surgery. Seven years later, he had a second bypass surgery. Nevertheless, his hobbies, besides music, included fly-fishing, hiking, canoeing and chopping wood! Some of the part-time jobs he had during his teaching career might surprise former students: commercial pilot, flight instructor, pulling glider planes, licensed funeral director/ambulance driver, and commercial fishing at Neah Bay for five summers. He's always played bass in various dance bands and directed the Stanwood-Camano Chorale for 25 years, until retiring so that he could sing in it. He also directed the Stanwood United Methodist Church choir for 40 years. He and his wife, Inez, shared a mutual love of fly fishing in the high mountain lakes of Canada, as well as music and travel. Music was such a big part of his life, playing tuba and bass guitar in various groups such as Skagit Community Band, Reeds 'N Rhythm, Don's Melodians, etc., yet Bruce still found time to volunteer for several years in the MOPS program, caring for the little ones, as well as helping out neighbors and friends. Bruce will be greatly missed by his wife, Inez, and family: Ben (Gay) Kollmar of Amarillo, TX, Yvonne (Dan) Allen of Concrete, WA, Kathleen (Don) Wadland of Mount Vernon, WA, Rob (Donna) Kollmar of Bozeman, MT, Brad (Salli) Beckmann of Cashmere, WA, Eric Beckmann of Bellingham, WA, Karen (Scott) Bates of Camano Island; 15 grand-children; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Anne (Marty) Drollinger of Grandview, WA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Fri., Jan. 3rd, 1 p.m., at Warm Beach Free Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Heart Institute in Seattle, or to fund a musical instrument scholarship at Stanwood High School. Information will be available at the memorial for those who wish specifics regarding memorials. They are all buried at Bonebrake Cemeteryi which is about 3 miles south fo Veedersburg, IN on St Rd 41. There is a "Drollinger row" of tombstones just onorth of the old church. The cemetery is well kept, thanks to my mother who helped form the cemetery league year ago. My parents are buried there. I think Sam Sr was my dad's favorite nephew as they both loved to hunt. When I was a child my younger sister Martha & I would spend a week with Aunt Ada Craig during the summer and what a treat for 2 country girls to visit in town. Her children were married and gone from home then. She had a sister Henerietta Jones Tinsley that used ot live with us in the winter time when I was a small child and in the summer she stayed with her brother Will Jones that lived west and north of us toward Kingman, Ind. But finally Aunt Henerietta in her later years went back to Tenn was married again and buried there Lawrenceburg, TN. More information from Patirence Ayers correspondence letter from 1978 in her words ----I don't know where Mary Ann Jones was born. She had a brother William (Will) Jones that lived west of Steam Corner and he had 2 daughters. There was another sister of Will Jones was Henerietta Jones Tinsley Harmon. She married a Dr Tinsley and lived in Tenn. After he died she came back to Ind. and lived with her brother Will and our family. She had her own bedroom at our house. I have a chair that was in her room. After several years she went back to Tenn and married this Harmon and died down there. Madge and Aunt Rosa Tinder visited her down there one time. This is typed what she wrote to me in her own words: I ask about where Samuel Drollinger lived and if she knew her dad was his administrator. Yes, I knew my dad was administrator of his fathers estate. I was raised ¾ mile west of where my grandfather lived but the house had been torn down before my time. My Uncle Nathan bought 80 acres south of his home on St Rd 41 and my dad bouthgt 80 acres west of Uncle Nates (Nathan) farm.
