Christian Saiter died at the home of his son William, three miles south of Marshall, Friday, at the advanced age of 93 years, 9 months. Funeral services were held at the Zion Church Sunday, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.W. Feller, assisted by Rev. J.C. Craig.
Mr. Saiter was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, September 8, 1824, and came to America when but a child. When coming over with his parents, they were taken sick with cholera and died on shipboard and were buried at sea. His uncle and aunt took charge of the boy and brought him to Marion, Ohio, where he lived until 14 years of age when he started out to make his own living.
In October 1850, he was married to Catherine Merkandoller at Marion, Ohio, and in 1855 they moved to Marshall. After living here 18 months, he purchased a tract of timberland three miles southeast of town and built a home.
There were born to them seven children of whom two daughters, Mary and Kate, preceded him in death, the mother following them 11 years ago. He had been a member of the evangelical church for about 20 years.
Three sons, Henry, John and William and two daughters, Mrs. Clara Remlinger of Marshall and Mrs. Caroline Millhouse of Clarksville; 35 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and three great, great, great grandchildren, besides many friends and relatives, survive him.
