- Mrs. Millie Elizabeth Baird (maiden name Parks) wife of Mr. Samuel Baird, died at their home January 24, 1894.
She was born in Monroe county, Indiana, July 20th, 1832, was raised chiefly in Putman county, Indiana, where she was married to Mr. Samuel Baird Nov. 5, 1848. Mr. and Mrs. Baird lived one year in Lucas county and then came to Ringgold county in 1855; were among the first settlers of the county and are well known in the county. She was converted in Decatur county in 1853 and first joined the Baptist church. After coming to this county she joined the United Brethren and afterward the Presbyterian church at Redding. After that she united with the United Presbyterian church of Redding June 14, 1890, of which she was a highly esteemed member at her death. Mrs. Baird was a devoted christian woman and lived a consistent christian life and her death was one of the most triumphant I ever witnessed. Several times during her sickness she said she was ready, waiting and wishing her Savior would come quickly and take her home. And when the Master came, her end was not only one of peace, but also of great joy.
The funeral sermon was preached by the pastor from John 11-28, last clause and the unusually large attendance gave evidence of the esteem in which Mrs. Baird was held by the people. She was loved by all who knew her.
