- Charles (Chuck) Elmer Trullinger died on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 11, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. at the Iles-Westover Chapel in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Westover Baptist Church in Des Moines with burial to follow at the Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
He was born January 15, 1932 in Claremore, OK to Guy and Edith Trullinger. They later moved to northern Missouri where he grew up with his five older brothers and sisters and graduated from Eagleville High School in 1949. He joined the Navy during the Korean War and was on the aircraft carrier, the USS Bataan where he worked as an airplane mechanic. After he got out of the Navy, he began working for Solar Aircraft in Des Moines and then later for Delavan Manufacturing until his retirement.
He was a member of the Gideons and an active member of Westover Baptist Church. He loved history and was an interpreter at Living History Farms and a docent for the State Historical Museum. He also enjoyed working with students at Capitol View Elementary in Des Moines and helping them with math and reading. He was an avid gardener and liked crafting projects out of wood.
He married Jayne Stanley in 1950 and Myrna Davis in 1955. He is survived by his five children; Theresa (Joe) Hamaker, Tina Elmore, Tana Kinder, Charles (Kara) Trullinger and Gary (Kara) Trullinger; 11 grandchildren; Missie (Rod) Cotton, Michelle (Bill) Plogher, Megan (Jeff) Madden, Adam Elmore, Nicolas (Sunny) Elmore, Hayley Elmore, Brynn Elmore, Travis (Nicole) Kinder, Talia (Kevin) Brown, and Britton and Brody Trullinger; 23 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his brother Glen (Rachel) Trullinger and one sister Louise Kinder, and is also survived by his wife of 42 years, Christy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Harold Trullinger, one sister Arlene Beeks, two sisters-in law, Mildred and Leah Trullinger and two brothers-in-law, John Beeks and Harold Kinder.
Memorials may be made to Westover Baptist Church or St. Judes Children's Hospital.
