Hi, I have an ancestor from Fountain county, IN. His name was Philipp Drolloinger born 14 May 1762 in Pennsneck, Salem Co., NJ died 15 June 1832 in Fountain Co., IN.
He married Hannah Kidd 19 May 1784 in Salem, Salem Co., NJ. She was born 20 August 1765 in Salem, Salem Co., NJ and died 4 November 1845 in Nauvoo, Hancock, Co., IL.
After Philipp Drollinger died she married Joseph Smith, the Prophet of the LDS Church. We have been told she was buried at Pioneer Saints Cemetery, Navoo, Hancock, Co., IL.
We visited Navoo, IL but could find no documentation that she died there and is buried in the Pioneer Saints Cemetery.
Does anyone have any information about Hannah Kidd Drollinger Smith? We would appreciate any information.
Philipp and Hannah Drollinger's daughter, Elizabeth Drollinger married Andrew Round between 1804-and 1810. She died in Hardin Co., I A.Elizabeth Drollinger and Andrew Round/Rouwd/Rowen are my direct line ancestors.
Thanks
(Now that's a facinating statement! Is there any truth to support that Hannah Kidd actually did marry the Prophet, Joseph Smith?!!Deserves further investigation! Comments and question posed by David H. Drollinger 27 Feb 2005)
(To me this is a case of wanting to connect to a famous historical person with little or no evidence. Unfortunately this happens far too often. Joseph Smith being one of figures in history that has his life well documented. These documents do not support a Hannah Kidd Drollinger marriage to Joseph Smith. Gordon L. Drollinger)
As you know, Hannah and Philip Drollinger are my direct line in the Drollinger Tree. I have done extensive research on this line, especially with their son, Samuel and wife Rachel. According to my research the information sent from Geri Buss is incorrect regarding Hannah being married to the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. I will give you some information that I have researched showing why I believe Hannah was not married to Joseph Smith, Jr. First, Hannah, her son, Samuel, and his wife Rachel were baptized members of the Mormon Church, on July 8, 1831 in Fountain Green Co. Indiana. Hannah's husband, Philip, was either experiencing poor health or he had not accepted the teachings of the Mormon Church. Just eleven months later he passed away on June 1832, and was buried in Fountain Co. Indiana. According to Clarissa Jane Drollinger Moore, Samuel's daughter, their family moved to Jackson Co. Missouri in the fall of 1833. After the mob drove them out of Jackson Co they settled across the river in Clay Co. Only two months later Samuel developed typhoid fever, and on August 16, 1834 he died. Keep in mind Hannah accompanied her son and continued to live with her dau in law, Rachel, until her death. After Samuel's death the family, including Hannah, continue to live on this farm until Feb 1838.
Geri Buss shows Hannah and Joseph Smith married 11 Sept 1834. Joseph Smith was living in Kirtland, Ohio where the Church headquarters was located at this time, and Hannah was living in Clay Co. MO. Governor Boggs issued an Order of Extermination , which stated, "that all Mormons must be exterminated or driven from the state". They were driven out of the state of MO and they relocated in Nauvoo, IL. This took place in the spring of 1839. This is when Hannah and Joseph Smith began living in the same community. Up to this point in time, Hannah knew of Joseph Smith but didn't get to really know him until they lived in Nauvoo. I have researched the Church records and they do not show Joseph Smith, Jr. being married to Hannah. Also, Hannah is buried in the Cook Cemetery south of Nauvoo, not in the Jefferson Co. IL Cemetery. I have tons of information regarding this family, but, I think this should suffice. Grant Drollinger

Annotated Records of Baptism for the Dead 1840-1845
The "Annotated Records of Baptism for the Dead 1840-1845; Nauvoo Hancock County, Illinois" is a seven volume set which is vital when researching ancestry of Latter-day Saint heritage.
The author, Sister Susan Easton Black (BYU professor of Church History), explained in a talk on the baptisms for the dead which were done in Nauvoo, that many individuals were baptized but no other ordinances were ever done for them. This reference work is a good place to begin.
Volume 7 is an all-name index.
Let me illustrate the series' usefulness with an example from my husband's Drollinger line. Hannah Kidd Drollinger lived in Nauvoo and was the oldest woman (age 76 years) at the creation of the Relief Society in 1842
In the book, Hannah is listed as the Proxy "Hannah Drollinger". Her maiden name of Kidd is listed as well as her parents' names. Her own mother's maiden name is also there. Hannah's birth date and place arealso listed, as well as her spouse and their marriage date and place. The death date for Hannah is also added (Hannah died 04 Nov 1845 in Hancock County, Illinois). Sources are listed as (1) Nauvoo Baptismal Records of the Dead; (2) Family Search; and (3) Ancestral File.
The next ten pages for Hannah Drollinger include many names with their information and their relationship to the proxy (ie. Hannah Drollinger). Her husband is listed, along with her parents, children, grandchildren, siblings, sister and brother-in-laws, cousins, etc.Everyone has all the information that is known about them from the minimum of sources (temple records, Ancestral File, and FamilySearch).
