- EMMA J. PALMATEER
Funeral services for Emma J. Palmateer, 86, who died early Saturday morning in her home near Estacada, will be held Monday at 1:30 P.M. at Chapman's funeral parlors in Estacada.
Mrs. Palmateer was born in Iowa and came to Oregon in 1865. Surviving are five children, Mrs. Leatha Wills, Portland; Mrs. Mary L. Vanderpool, McMinnville; Mrs. Kate Snuffin, Estacada; Mrs. Pearl Stevens, Kelso, and Richard G. Palmateer of Estacada; one brother, Ira Epperson of Riverside, Cal., and seven grandchildren.

"From the files of Daraleen Wade Oct 12, 2000--Emma J. Epperson Palmateer was born June 22, 1 854 in Monroe Co., state of Iowa, 3 miles west of Albia, the Co., seat. She started across the plains on May, 1863 to prolong the life of her mother who raised 8 children. Mrs. Palmateer arrived at the mining town of Galena, Nevada on October first and left Galena for Oregon on the 10 day of July, 1864, arriving in Rooseburg (sic), Oregon on the 1st day of November 1864 and she spent the winter there. On July 1, 1865 she came to Albany where she worked in the harvest. On September 1st of that year she came over to Sandy Ridge where her father was the fifth homesteader on the Ridge. She met Richard or Dock Palmateer in March 1870 and married on December 11, 1870 and moved to her husband's homestead where she and he spent 51 years of wedded life. They raised a family of five children, four girls and one son, Richard lives on the home place, mother and son (sic). The oldest daughter Mrs. Leatha Wills lives on Columbia Boulevard in Portland, Mrs. Loverbbia (sic) Vanderpool in Newport, Mrs. Catherine Snuffin at Estacada and Mrs. Pearl Stevens at Kelso, WA.
Emma Palmateer has five children, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Out of a family of 11 children Mrs. Palmateer and her brother alone remain. Her brother Ira Epperson lives at Riverside, California. (from unidentified and undated newspaper clipping)."
