- Crypt side services for John "Lee" "Jack" Rainey of McMinnville will beheld at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the mausoleum in Evergreen Memorial Park. Officiating will be Joe Fore of the McMinnville Masonic Lodge. Mr. Rainey died Jan. 28, 1988, in the Careousel Care Center. He was 75. Born Jan. 4, 1913, in Woodburn, he was the son of John and Ada Trullinger Rainey. He grew up and went to school in Portland, Banks and Carlton. He served in the Navy from 1936 to 1946, sailing aboard the USS Medusa, Colorado, Wilson, Shawmut, Salem and Duluth during World War II. He reached the rank of chief petty officer.
He received several medals; European - African Mid - East with one star, American Campain, Asiatic - Pacific Campaign with one star, American Defense with one star, Victory World War II and Good Conduct with two stars. He was a diesel school graduate. He and Adeline T. Thoma were married Oct. 16, 1945, in Portland. Mr. Rainey worked as a route salesman for Pacfic Produce, Portland, until 1954. He also worked on Sauce Brothers Tug and Barge Co. vessels and in the timber industry near Tillamook. In July 1955, he became a member of the 689th Radar Sation Civil Enginerring staff on Mt. Hebo, Before he retired in 1973. He held assistant base civil engineer and power plant supervisory positions. He moved to McMinnville in 1974. Mr. Rainey was a past master of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Oregon State Deputy Sheriffs' Association, the National Association of Federal Employees and Protective Order of Elks in McMinnville, the American Legion, the Tillamook Moose Lodge, the County Special Deputy Sheriffs and Michelbook Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Adeline Rainey of McMinnville; and a sister, Pearl Myers of McMinnville. Arragments are being handled by Macy & Son Funeral Directoers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the cancer unit of the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
