  • Notes
    • James Sheffey Pruett committed suicide at the age of seventy-nine. On Day 1: he attempted to shoot himself, but missed. He went into the house and stated he had tried to shoot a rabbit, but missed. (Everyone had heard the gunshot). He then asked Oscar Lee Pruett (his grandson) to go to the store to buy a half dozen more shells for his 12 gauge shotgun. Oscar did as requested. On Day 2: He went outside to "Jonathan Flat" (Pruett Branch). He cut three sticks which were found at the site. The first one was too short. The second was too limber. He placed the shotgun to his forehead and used the third stick to pull the trigger. It was said that he shot the top of his skull off. It was sitting on his coat with hair sticking up. His son Henry Allen found him. SOURCE: Oscar Lee Pruett.
