- Marvel N. Werts, 101, of Algona, formerly of Wellman, passed from this life on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society Care Facility in Algona. A private family service will be held followed by burial at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Good Samaritan Society Activity Department. The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Society and Hospice of the Heartland for the excellent care of Marvel. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Marvel Nadine (Drollinger) Werts was born July 4, 1922, in Essex, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Gayle (Croy) Drollinger. She graduated from Kalona High School and was united in marriage to Jay Brenneman on December 8, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. Jay passed in 1968. On May 18, 1973, she was united in marriage to Earl Werts at Wellman Asbury United Methodist Church. Marvel was a farm wife and later in life worked at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was active in UMW. Marvel enjoyed boating, camping, sewing and cooking, collecting dolls and making dollhouses. She was a musician and loved to play the organ, piano and violin.
Survivors include two sons: Terry Brenneman of Williamsburg, Larry (Peggy) Brenneman of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren: Joelle Brenneman of Williamsburg, Jill (Jeremy) Loria of Cedar Falls, Jeffrey Brenneman of Cedar Rapids, Christina (Brian) Brenneman Savage and Kimberly (Rob) Brenneman Combest both of Wentzville, MO, 11 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Naomi Drollinger of Redding, CA.
Preceding Marvel in death were her parents, both husbands, Jay and Earl, daughter-in-law Diane Brenneman, her sister Ruth Klundt and her brother Russell Drollinger.
