- Fairmount, Illinois - Dane W. Darr 88, well known, lifelong Fairmount area Farmer, passed away at 6:25pm Friday, March 29, 2019, at Carle Hospital in Urbana.
He was born January 10, 1931, in Jamaica Township, Illinois to George & Alice Hart Darr. Dane married Mary Lou Drollinger January 7, 1956 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville.
Mary Lou survives, as well as 1 son: Bryan (Caroline) Darr of Fairmount; 2 daughters: Melinda (Randy) Skaggs of Danville and Carla (Bill) High of Catlin; 1 brother: David (Evelyn) Darr of Fairmount; 8 grandchildren: Samantha (Alan) Kitchen, Mariah (Denton) Hird, Ravyn Skaggs, Dustin (Jessica) High, Chelsie (Scott) Hardy, Lisa Neal, Daniel (Stacey) Neal, Christopher (Faith) Neal, 9 great-great grandchildren: Avery Kitchen, Camden Kitchen, Graham High, Ruthie High, Savannah Hardy, Dylan Neal, Macie Neal, Harper Neal, Jaxton Paskavich.
Dane was preceded in death by: 2 brothers & sisters in law, Charles (Mary Elizabeth) Darr and Paul (Margaret) Darr, as well 2 sisters & brothers in law, Marjorie (Ralph) Diel and Mary (Lloyd) Puzey.
He was an Army veteran serving in Korea, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville. His entire life had been centered on farming & agriculture. He was a member of the Vermilion County & Illinois Farm Bureau, active on the Illinois Farm Bureau State Marketing Committee, as well as the board of directors of farm bureau, and received the Distinguished Service Award as well. He had been a member of the former Fairmount Lions Club, and enjoyed square dancing with the Frontier Twirlers for many years. He enjoyed mowing, and took great pride in his homeplace. Dane was extremely proud of his family.
Funeral services 10:30am Friday April 5, 2019 at the Catlin Church of Christ 715 West Vermilion Street Catlin, IL. Chris Lawler will officiate. Burial with military honors by Catlin American Legion will follow in the Davis Cemetery west of Fairmount. Visitation is from 4-7pm on Thursday at the Catlin Church of Christ. Memorials in Dane's memory to the Vermilion County Farm Bureau Foundation. The Robison Chapel in Catlin is in charge of arrangements. On-line condolences at www.robisonchapel.com
