    • South Bend News-Times, Fri., May 17, 1918, p. 1:
      "Mrs. Catherine Summers, within seven months of being 100 years old, died Thursday night at her old home in Clay township, near Notre Dame. She had been confined to her bed for the past eight years under the constant care of a nurse but the end came merely as a result of the infirmities of old age.
      "Mrs. Summers is survived by two sons, Gabriel R. Summers of South Bend, and Thomas D. Summers of Clay township with whom she lived. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
      "The funeral will be held Monday morning in Sacred Heart church, Notre Dame, Rev. Father Schier officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove cemetery.
      "Mrs. Summers was born Dec. 23, 1818 in Hamilton county, Ohio, and moved with her parents to this vicinity in 1832. The trip overland was made in pioneer fashion with ox teams and the family settled on Terre Coupee prairie west of New Carlisle. Her father, Gabriel Drullinger, received his patent for the farm he occupied from Andrew Jackson.
      "She was married to Edward Summers. who died in April 1880. Mrs. Mary Summers Vanderhoof, the third child of the marriage, died several years ago in Windsor, Canada.
      "Mrs. Summers had lived on the farm in Clay township for the last 51 years."
