Gordon L. Drollinger claims his pension file says 31 Dec 1832.
Gordon also claims his death certificate states "age 73 years 10 months 28 days" which calculates to 30 Nov 1832.
Because his large, expensive headstone says 1 Jan 1833, I am going with that date as his most credible birth date so far.

The birth date should be known to the individual as it was celebrated every year and told to them by the parents. The grave stone dates are given to the engraver by someone after the person is deceased and therefore is a secondary source. The death date should be correct but it should be realized the birth date is not given by the persons who would normally know best. that is the parents and the individual. Gordon L. It appears from the records of this office that he accepted commission as 2nd Lieutenant 12th Infantry, April 30, 1866; promoted 1st Lieutenant July 28, 1866 and became unassigned April 10, 1869. He was on duty with the regiment from May 21 to Dec 1866 and absent sick to January 1867 (copy of certificate given [not included in file] Acting Asst Surg G.B. Braman USA herewith) With Regiment at Washington DC to March 30 1867; on leave- not sick leave- to April 30 1867;with regiment in Washington DC to January 1868; in South Carolina to September 1868; Georgia to March 1869; Washington DC to April 1869; awaiting orders to June 4 1869; on reconstruction duty to July 25, 1869 and awaiting orders to muster out of service. He tendered his resignation August 22, 1870 under the provisions of section 3 Act July 15 1870, and was discharged under said section and act, to take effect October 1, 1870.

Andrew McDonald Trolinger's four army commissions are in the possession of four different descendants: #1 commission dated 17 May 1862, 2nd Lt, Tennessee Volunteers,Union Army, in possession of the Lincoln Shrine in Redlands, CA; # 2 commission 1st Lt, Union Army , in the possession of Charles Trolinger, Bella Vista, CA; # 3 commission post Civil War, 12th US Infantry,in possession of Steve Trolinger, Bentonville, AR; #4 commission, Ist Lt, 12th US Infantry, in possession of James Trolinger, son of Charles Trolinger & brother of Steve. Andrew's uniform epaulette's have a 12 on it. Andrew's medal is in possession of the son of Ernest Danielson, Mentone, CA, who inherited it from his grandfather, Thomas Trolinger, who received it as sole surviving son. According to the lettter written to Aunt Cora from Aunt Annie in 1930's, Andrew was with the Union Army before the Civil War started. He "was stationed in Virginia when cousin Addie and Cousin Julia were born, then was stationed in Washington, DC where Aunt Laura was married. The grey squirrel scarf and muff he sent for Aunt Laura's marriage was sent from Washington. Uncle Andy was stationed in Black Hills of Dakota when war was declared."
