TILTON — Harry Lee Phillips, 80, of Tilton, died at 6:20 a.m.Wednesday June 20, 2012, at Hawthorne Inn in Danville.
Graveside services: 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at Songer Cemetery inTilton, with Pastor Don Prouty officiating. Visitation: 11:30-12:30p.m. Saturday at Pape Funeral Home in Danville. Memorial: TiltonHistorical Society. 201 W. 5th. Street, Tilton, IL 61833.
Harry was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Danville, to Earl Lee and Pearl IdaDrollinger Phillips.
He attended Tilton Grade School and graduated from Danville High in1949. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He had worked for Davies Packing and Danville VA hospital. He laterworked for Illinois Bell Telephone as a lineman, office work and cablesplicer from 1956 to 1990.
He was a member of Illinois Bell Local 399 and Bell Pioneers. He was amember of Tilton Historical Board, former chief with the VermilionCounty Sheriff’s Patrol, American Red Cross board and former Tiltonfire chief for over 30 years.
He enjoyed woodworking. He especially enjoyed spending time with hiswife, his family and especially his grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren.
Harry married Frances Louise Lanter on July 24, 1953, in S. Danvilleand she survives.
Survivors include five sons, Stephen Phillips, John Phillips, Earl(Brenda) Phillips, David (Rhonda) Phillips and Brian (Dana) Phillips;20 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded by hisparents, a sister, Ruth Winland, and two brothers, George Kizer andDonald Kizer.
