Gender Female Death 29 Dec 2023 - Frances "Fran" Drollinger, 85, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023. No funeral services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, Fran's family requests memorials be directed to your local animal shelter in her name.
Fran was born September 23, 1938, in Iowa City to parents Lloyd and Margaret (Vikel) Abbott. She married Charles Drollinger on January 13, 1963 in Solon, Iowa.
As a child and young adult Fran was an excellent horse rider, both competitively and recreationally. She was fond of animals in general, particularly dogs. Fran always had to have a dog. In the late 70s she even had a Great Dane that competed at various dog shows in the region. In her free time Fran loved ceramics. She was very artistic in general. Fran also enjoyed fishing, mostly at Lake Macbride or in the Iowa River.
Fran's family includes her husband Charles and her siblings, Ralph (Terry) Abbott, JoAnn Dahnke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her siblings, Val (Eugene), Benny, George, Lois, Donna Mae, and Joan.

Iowa City - Val Eugene Abbott, 85, died peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa.
Val was born on April 2, 1936 in Iowa City, the son of Lloyd and Margaret (Vikel) Abbott. He graduated from Iowa City High School and served in the US Air Force for 4 years. Val worked for many years at the United States Mint in Denver, Colorado, retiring in 2003. Following retirement, Val returned to Iowa City.
Val was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter- Day Saints and was active in his local congregation. He enjoyed gardening, decorating, and volunteering at the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in West Branch, Iowa. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his feisty personality, and his entertaining stories.
He is survived by three siblings, Francis Drollinger (Chuck) of Iowa City, JoAnn Dahnke (Lyle) of Muscatine and Ralph Abbott (Terry) of Dixon, as well as by several nieces and nephews, and many caring friends.
Val was proceeded in death by his parents and by siblings Bennie, George, Lois, Donna Mae, and Joan.
