CHRISTIAN GRACELY, (Montgomery Township) proprietor of a hardware,tinware and agricultural implement establishment at La Rue, Ohio, wasborn September 1, 1844, and is a native of Richland Township. He isthe son of Jacob Friederich and Sophia (Drollinger) Gracely, nativesof Ellmendingen, Baden, Germany. His father came to America about1830, and married soon afterward. The common schools have given oursubject his education. When aged fifteen, he embarked upon life forhimself, farming one year, and then black smithing eleven years.February 6, 1872, lie entered the building he now occupies, startingthe first hardware store in La Rue. He has a. large and commodiousstore, and carries a full line of goods, amounting in stock to $4,000.He also owns 150 acres of land in Iowa. May 8, 1865, he married HannahA. Schrote, daughter o Jacob and Christie A. (Young) Schrote. The nameof their only child was Mary B. She died (1868), aged seven months andten days. Mr. Gracely has greatly prospered in business. Isrespectably known throughout the county, and he and wife are membersof the M. E. Church. In politics, he believes in prohibition of theliquor traffic.
