Notes - During a telephone conversation tonight, Shirley told me that JR Simplot had tried for a long time to get Fred (Shirley's dad) to come work for him but Fred would always decline because he was afraid that he would lose JR's money and didn't want to take that risk. She said JR told her once that Fred "was the best God damned man he'd ever known". Jr respected his honesty. Fred told JR that he only had a third grade education and was worried that he wouldn't be able to live up to JR's expectations. JR told him that that was all he had as well. Shirley also told me that my Dad drove truck for her Dad for a few months on his farm. (David H. Drollinger 11 Feb 2015)
