Barbara Kay Allard
COCOA, Fla. -- Barbara Kay Allard, 66, of Cocoa, Fla., passed awaySunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Brevard County,Fla., after an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 1, 1939, in Marion to the late Ernest C. Messengerand Maude (Staley Messenger) Cook; her mother survives in Marion.
She was a 1957 graduate of Marion Harding High School.
She married Robert Phillip Allard in 1957. They resided in Leesville,Ohio, and she was employed at Galion Community Hospital in theemergency room. Moving to Brevard County in 1982, she worked asdirector of the Space Coast Center for Independent Living of CocoaBeach and was a member of the Post Polio Support Group. She enjoyedbowling, swimming and writing poetry, for which she received awards,and was recognized in 2000 as a Woman of Achievement of BrevardCounty.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Charles) Ingram and Sherry(Joe) Pace of Florida and two stepchildren, Diana Lanning of Columbusand Randal (Pam) Allard of Morral, Ohio. She is also survived by twograndchildren, Jamie Medrano and Jeremy Gerster; twogreat-grandchildren, Marianna Alanzo and Jasmine Medrano, all ofBrevard County Florida; three stepgrandchildren and a number of niecesand nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her son, Mark Allard; herfather, Ernest C. Messenger, who was a WWII casualty of the Battle ofthe Bulge in Germany; her sister, Joyce (Robert) Drollinger, and herstepfather, Lowell Cook.
Barbara was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by themany who loved her. She was laid to rest next to her loving husband,Robert, in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
A memorial celebrating Barbara's life will be held March 6, 2005, at2:30 at Greenwood United Methodist Church with Pastor Lukeofficiating.
