- Katherine (Witman) Hocker, 105, an active resident of Homeland Center, Harrisburg and formerly of Progress, passed away peacefully Wednes-day, October 5, 2011 at the home.
Born July 20, 1906 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Mary (Trullinger) Witman, and was a graduate of Susquehanna Township High School.
She retired from Dauphin Deposit Trust Company with 33 years of service; was a life member of Colonial Park United Church of Christ, where she was a member and Past President of the Edna Hoke Sunday School Class and was a founding and charter member of the Friendship Club. She was a World War II Air Raid Warden in Progress; had manned the Linglestown Airplane Observation Post; was a member and Past President of the Robert Hoke American Legion Post 272 Ladies Auxiliary, Linglestown; past member of the Progress Fire Company Auxiliary; the Polyclinic Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary; and the Susquehanna Golden Age Club. She was a member and Past High Priestess of the Ladies Oriental Shrine EsSaid Court 29; was a charter member of Estrellita Chapter #512, Order of the Eastern Star; and was a member of the former Tri County Easter Seal Society.
She was the widow of Mervin J. Hocker, who passed away in 1980 after over 50 years of marriage, and was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffrey Bogar and son-in-law, Marsh C. Bogar.
Surviving is her daughter: Elaine H. Bogar, Harrisburg; one granddaughter: Susan B. Nichols, Camp Hill; two greatgrandchildren: Couldren Bogar and Corey Nichols; one great greatgrandson: Connor Bogar; and her daughter-in-law: Joyce (Johns) Bogar, Grantville; and also leaves to mourn her loss her family of Homeland employees, who took such good care of her during her 17 years as a resident.
Memorial services will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, October 14, 2011 in her church, Colonial Park United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dr. Bonita Zobeck, her pastor, officiating. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m., until the time of services.
Burial will be in Shoop's Cemetery, Harrisburg, at the convenience of the family.
