Notes - This is and was a curious story and had to have been the source ofmuch bemusement among the various family members in their time.Azariah Olden Parnell was married twice. Azariah first married NancyF. Blackstone (I am descended from this marriage) and together theyhad a daughter named Margret Lucinda Parnell. Nancy, unfortunately, died young and Azariah later married Mary Ann Dye who was the daughterof Gilbert and Priscilla Dye. Gilbert and Priscilla Dye had severalother children including Mary Ann's brother, Henry Dye. Henry Dyemarried Margret Lucinda Parnell and together they had severalchildren, one of which was a daughter they also named Mary Ann Dye andanother daughter, Eda Dye who is my great grandmother. As a result ofher marriage to Henry, Margret would have been the step-daughter ofMary Ann Dye (her father's second wife), but in addition, they wouldhave also been sisters-in-law due to the fact that Mary Ann and Henrywere brother and sister! Another curiosity is that Margret must haveeither thought enough of her or was easy going enough that she (inconjunction with her husband, Henry) would name her own daughter MaryAnn knowing that in spite of the fact that the elder Mary Ann was herhusband's sister, but at the same time was also her father's secondwife - her step-mother! Most women I've ever met never thought enoughof their step-mothers to actually name their daughters after them!
(David H. Drollinger 15 Sep 2011)
Note: Because her first name is spelled "Margret" on her elaboratelycarved stone grave marker (no doubt an expensive marker for its time),I would assume that was the way her name was meant to be spelled andthe common spelling of "Margaret" is in error as it refers to herwhich is the way I have it spelled in this record until suchcompelling evidence to the contrary is discovered.
