- Our dear Jane left as she lived, on her terms, peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on January 27, 2023. She lived a full and rewarding life having seen most if not all of the free world.
Jane was born in Olympia, Washington where she grew up, later attending the University of Washington. Predeceased by her parents Truman and Rae, sister Jackie, son Christopher Brewer and her husband Basil Heming, she is survived by her sons Webb (Walter) and Curtis Brewer, stepsons Dennis and Jeff Heming, granddaughters Natalie and Danielle Brewer and granddaughters of her late husband, Julia, Alicia and Rachel Heming.
What is there to say about a woman, mother and friend who was the real deal. She was a proud American before adopting Canada in 1957. Jane was a Past President and an Honorary Member of The Garden Club of Hamilton as well as Past President of The Garden Clubs of Ontario. She was an avid gardener who could be seen sitting on her cushion in her garden pulling weeds. She loved to read, complete jigsaw puzzles and crosswords, cheer on her Buffalo Bills and her favourite golfers.
Jane volunteered for many years in the kitchen at St. John's Anglican Church in Ancaster where she was known for her egg salad sandwiches and shortbread cookies. She held a Friday night get-together in her home for her close friends and neighbours. Together they had many discussions and knew that if Jane was in charge the world would be a much better place. At her request she has been cremated. A celebration of life will take place in the spring, her favourite season of the year a time of rebirth and celebration. In her memory, a donation may be made to St. John's Anglican Church in Ancaster or the Mark Preece Family House, Barton Street East, Hamilton.
