      Carl L. Roberts was born September 16, 1926 in Oakland, California to Carl L. (Les) Roberts and Helen (Trullinger) Roberts. He was an only child.
      Carl attended school in Pocatello, Idaho. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Navy and trained at Camp Farragut, Idaho and was stationed in the Philippines. He qualified as a marksman in pistol and rifle. Carl was a radio operator on ship. He was on the USS Talladega and went to Shanghai, China. After his honorary discharge from the Navy, he attended Syracuse University, but didn't finish his degree. He returned to Idaho and attended Idaho State University and obtained a BS in Psychology in 1952. Carl met his wife Shirley Lind during those years.
      They moved to Missouri where he attended University of Missouri and received his MA in Psychology in 1954. He went on to complete his PHD in Psychology in 1959.
      He came to Colorado in 1957 with his wife, Shirley and their two children, Michael and Barbara.
      Carl, along with three other colleagues started the psychology department at Colorado College, where he was Department Chairman from 1958 to 1977. He was a Fellow, Institute of Behavior Research in Silver Spring, Maryland; Visiting Professor, University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand; Visiting Professor, Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Carl became Professor Emeritus in 1992.
      Carl was strongly committed to community service. He served on the Board of Education in District 3 in El Paso County, the Security Public Library Board, the Steering Committee for the foundation of Plains of Peake Public Library System, was involved in Headstart Community Action Programs, and served on the Board of Directors of Trout Unlimited.
      Carl was a voracious reader. He was an artist specializing in watercolors. He played on the faculty hockey team, was on the softball team, and acted in several plays at Colorado College. He was a fanatic fly fisherman. He tied is own flies and fished all over the world. After he developed macular degeneration, which robbed him of these things precious to him, he did not let it stop him from volunteering at the Sand Creek Library for several years.
      Carl is proceeded in death by his wife, Shirley on February 2, 2010. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara of Fruita, Colorado.
      Personal thanks to the New Century Hospice team, Nikki (RN) and Katie (CNA), who assisted with providing care in his home for his last days.
