Philip and John Nicholas Leister arrived at Philadelphia on Saturday, 3 November 1750 aboard one of William Penn's ships, "The Brotherhood" captained by John Thompson, from Rotterdam by way of Cowes, England. Along with 117 of the ship's 300 passengers, the two signed the oath of abjuration at the Philadelphia Courthouse the same day. They are shown on the list of signers as "Philieb Leister" and "Nicklas Leyster". They both settled first on the Perkiomen River in Bucks County, PA. From 1764 until 1771 John Nicholas farmed a property he owned near the Indian Field Lutheran Church in Franconia Township. He bought and moved to what became known as the Leister plantation on the north side of the Uniontown Road on the outskirts of Westminster, MD in 1771. Philip apparently continued farming near Rockhill Township in Pennsylvania.
