- It appears that 'Drulinger' is way he spelled his surname which appears to be in keeping with that of his branch of the family tree after it changed from the 'Drollinger' root spelling. It appears the 'Drulinger' spelling most likely originated in the Alsace region of France, a place that bounced back and forth from French rule to German rule over time. Following the immigration of some of the Drulingers to America some of those people and or their descendants took on the 'Drullinger' spelling of the name.
I believe Michel (Michael) Drollinger (b abt 1829 France) could be the son of Cajetan Drollinger (b 1797 Germany - d 1847 France). As of this writing I am only aware of a few Drollingers who have been born in France in the 1800s and most if not all of them were born in the Alsace-Lorraine region. Cajetan Drollinger died in this area and three of his known children (Barbe; Elizabeth and Ferdinand) were born there. If Michel is indeed his son, it would appear that Michel would have been born between Barbe and Elizabeth. Obviously, actual proof is still required and will soon surface as to Michel's true parentage. (David H. Drollinger 16 Sep 2020)
The key is the baptismal record of Michel son of Andreas Andre Drulinger and his first wife Magdalene Kayser found by GLD in the LDS site. He comes to the USA in 1839 and was probably in contact with his father who comes over in 1853.
Believe he is from the Alsase Lorainne region of Germany/France
My theory is at least one or more Ellmendingen Drollingers migrated into Alsace which at that time was part of Germany. From there some descendants migrated to America. The missing link or links in the chain are not known as of 2013 GLD MOMMENHEIM BAS RHIN maybe be a clue
