- John Monroe Turner, 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Duke University Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family when he went home. He was born in Alamance County and was the loving husband of 54 years to Cheryl Trollinger Turner who survives.
Johnny was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed making and fixing things with his talented hands. After his career in construction, he was a supervisor at Kayser-Roth Hosiery for twenty-two years until he retired to be a full-time husband, father and PawPaw. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and spending time with his family, especially his five grandchildren. Johnny took immense joy in hanging out with his dogs Raschal, Prince, Peanut and Bobby. He also loved his many playdates with Maggie and Madelyn Davenport.
Johnny was beloved by everyone who knew him and has many deep friendships that go back to elementary school and Eastern High School. He was a loyal true blue Duke basketball fan and never missed a game. As often as he could, you would find in the stands of whatever basketball, football, track, cheerleading or other event that his children and grandchildren participated in. He loved his family deeply and unconditionally and leaves a legacy that will permeate generations.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Trollinger Turner of the home; his mother, Helen Dallas Turner of Burlington; daughter, DeAnna Michelle Sohn and husband John of Raleigh and son John Ralph Turner and wife Margaret of Greenville; grandchildren, Nate and Sam Turner, Alex, David and Alyssa Sohn; sister, Gayle Riley and husband Thomas of Mebane; brothers Larry Turner of New York and Darrell Turner of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Monroe Turner.
The family will have a private memorial on September 5th. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a memorial donation in Johnny s name to of Greensboro at www.habitatgreensboro.org to support the amazing work they do in our community.
