    • Aston B. 'Hardy' Trollinger

      Railroad Brakeman

      Aston B. "Hardy" Trollinger, 87, a railroad brakeman who worked 38 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad before retiring in 1976, died of a heart ailment Feb. 12 at Fort Washington Hospital.

      Mr. Trollinger lived in Oxon Hill for 50 years before moving to Bryans Road in Charles County in 1999.

      He was born in Caswell County, N.C., and raised in Richmond and Washington.

      He served in the Army from 1935 to 1939 and was once stationed in Panama.

      He was a member of the Masonic Temple.

      Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ida Trollinger of Bryans Road; four children, Walter Trollinger of Virginia Beach, Jeff Trollinger of Bryans Road, Larry Trollinger of Alexandria and Robert Trollinger of Huntingtown, in Calvert County; a brother, William Trollinger of Lusby, in Calvert; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

      A son, David Trollinger, died in 1953.

    • Although he was pronounced dead when he arrived at the Prince George's Co Hospital, he actually passed away at his son Cecil Jeffrey Trollinger's house in Charles County MD. He passed away in his sleep. Ida Louise Trollinger continued to live with her son Cecil for several years after the death of her husband but later lived with Larry Lee Trollinger and then finally at the Godwin house (an assisted living facility) in Virginia.
