The Rev. James 'Jim' Thomas Trollinger, 68, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, from natural causes related to a brain tumor in Charlotte, N.C. Born February 8, 1945 in Asheboro, N.C., Jim was the

5th of 6 children of the late Henry Rupert and Ellen Brown Trollinger. He graduated Asheboro High School (1963), Guilford College (1967), and Duke Divinity School (1970).
As an ordained Elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church for 45 years, Jim served: First, Lexington; Salem, Albemarle; First, Charlotte; Oakley, Asheville; Dilworth, Charlotte, and Jamestown. During his many years of service he also served as the Executive Director at Givens Estates United Methodist Retirement Community, Asheville; Gastonia District Superintendent, Waynesville District Superintendent, Conference Director of Connectional Ministries, Assistant to the Bishop, and the Assistant to the Cabinet for District Transitions.
Jim is survived by the former Sue Norwood, two sons Greg (Eleanor) and Jonathan (Chrystal); two sisters Sara Trollinger, Jane Chambers (Rick); two sisters-in-law, Joan Trollinger and Faith Trollinger; several nieces and nephews, as well as five grandchildren (Charlotte, Caroline, Charlie, Lilly, and Julia) who lovingly called him "Jim-Pa." He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Paul; and his sister, Betty Sheets. His life was enriched by a large extended family and many dear friends and colleagues.
The service of celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte. Parking will be available in the church's parking deck on 9th Street between Tryon and Church Streets.
