Gender Male Death 19 Nov 2005 Macungie, Lehigh, PA - Carl B. Trollinger, 72, of Macungie, passed away November 19 in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was born to Beulah and Elmer Trollinger at their homestead in Palm, the current site of Cab Frye's restaurant. He was married for 49 years to Ruth M. (Ritz) Trollinger, who predeceased him last December. Carl received his bachelor's degree from Muhlenberg College in 1955 and his master's degree in education from Bucknell University. He often related fond memories of his ATO fraternity days at Muhlenberg. He was honorably discharged from the military in May 1962, following service which included a stint in Germany, where he resided with Ruth when they were newlyweds. Carl had affection for his brothers in Grundsow Lodge 7, East Greenville. He was proud to be a Mason in Perkiomen Masonic Lodge 595, Red Hill. Carl's with and wisdom are legendary among family and friends. Carl taught English in the late 1950s at Northern Lehigh/Slatington High School for many years, while he and his beloved Ruth lived in Slatington. Relocating to Macungie in the late 1970s, he taught English at East Penn High School until his retirement in the late 1980s. Carl was always delighted when he bumped into former students, which happened often. He amazed family and friends with his recall. It was not unusual for him to recount detailed stories with a smile, from the perspective of a loving mentor. Any mention of Carl's life must include his love of the guitar and his camaraderie for his fellow musicians throughout the Lehigh Valley, and the world. Carl enjoyed years of membership in FUGOWEE, an area jazz club. There is hardly a venue throughout the area where he hasn't played a guitar. For years, Friday and Saturday nights at the Anchorage in Emmaus drew a crowd of regulars where he and Bobby Peters headlined as "Carl and the Captain". For four decades, Carl taught guitar to individual pupils, including many who have achieved fame in this field. While these details mark a life well spent, nothing was more important or enjoyable to Carl than his dearness for family and friends. He was a lifelong member of Schwenkfelder Church, Palm.
