- Nora Lee Covington Trollinger was born June 23, 1930 in Burlington, NC to Samuel Covington and Minnie Corbett Covington.
She attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland and married her beloved husband, Avery Norwood Trollinger, in 1954. Nora worked for a period of time at Western Electric in Burlington, before deciding to become a full-time homemaker, which she absolutely loved. Once she and Avery became empty nesters, she went to work at Emmanuel Day Care in Burlington, where she enjoyed working for many years.
Nora was very creative, an excellent cook and a loving homemaker. She was a fantastic mother. Nora and Avery were named Parents of the Year by Graham High School in 1983, and her three children can attest to the love with which she raised them. She loved parties and entertaining and welcoming loved ones into her home. The Trollinger home was definitely a place where friends gathered, a tradition that continued throughout Nora's life. If you spent a day with Nora, you'd no doubt notice the phone and doorbell ringing, lovely reminders of all the friends and family who cared for her. She even loved helping others create community, occasionally catering her delicious meals for parties in private homes.
Nora LOVED her family. She was extremely proud of her three grandchildren. She was generous with her words, time and efforts, and had a host of friends who loved her for it. She also loved watching sports on TV, especially UNC basketball! Above all, she loved God and her faith was strong throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Children's Chapel United Church of Christ, serving in a number of roles there over the years, including deaconess, trustee, missionary circle member and usher board member.
To say that Nora will be missed is a tremendous understatement. She is loved with an everlasting love.
