- LESTERVILLE -- Silas Hugie Volner, 84, of Lake Placid, Fla., formerly of Oates, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Volner was born Oct. 10, 1919, at Oates. He was retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 30 years of employment and was a United States Army Air Corps. veteran, having served in Calcutta, India. He was of the Baptist faith.
On June 14, 1947, he married Fermetta Johnson. She survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Enid Furlong of Lake Placid, Fla.; one son, Kevin Volner of Maysville, Ky.; five sisters, Gladys Overfelt, Geneva Mathis and Betty Johnson, all of Salem, Audrey Hinson of Rolla and Bonnie Mathes of Boss; three brothers, Coell Volner of Forsyth and Carter Volner and Buell Volner, both of Salem; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at McSpadden Funeral Home of Lesterville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Locust Grove United Baptist Church of Oates with Pastors Richard Dunn and Carlton Mathis officiating. Burial will be at Myers Cemetery at Oates.
