Dorothy passed away peacefully on April 4th in her beloved Santa Rosa home at the age of 97. Preceding Dorothy in death was her loving husband of 64 years, Dominick. Dorothy was born in Pleasant Hill, Missouri in 1913. She was the youngest of seven children of Charles and May Powell. Dorothy and Dominick were married in 1944 only weeks before her husband was shipped overseas to fight in the European Theatre as an Air Force pilot in World War II. After the war, Dorothy and Dominick moved from the east to the Southern California area in the mid 1940's. After living nearly 40 years in Southern California, Dorothy and Dom decided to retire in the lovely town of Santa Rosa and they fell in love with the area and could not have been more happy. They felt they were home. As her husband was getting very involved in the music culture in Sonoma county, Dorothy volunteered at the First United Methodist Church's nursery school as well as assisting in the weekly needs of Sonoma County's Friends in Sonoma Helping (F.I.S.H.) charity, which helps families in need. Dorothy's love and natural affinity for children would light up her spirit. Dorothy is survived by her older sister, Mildred Belser (103 years old!) as well as her children: Robert Johnson of Portland, Oregon, Nancy Hartman of Carson City, Nevada and David Di Sarro of Santa Rosa. Dorothy also is survived by her son-in-law, Steve Hartman and her grandchildren: Kimberly Laack, Stephen Hartman and Emily Di Sarro as well as three great grandchildren; Noah, Audrey and Grayson. Dorothy is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Lent of New York and her brother-in-law John Di Sarro of Orange County. Interment at Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
