High St., Ishpeming, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at his home in Ishpeming while in the loving care of his family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice following a brief illness. Allen was born November 25, 1927 in Ishpeming the son of the late Clifford H. and Edith M. (Thomas) Perry. He grew up in Ishpeming and was a graduate of the Ishpeming High school, Class of 1945. He went on to attend Michigan State University and at the same time enlisted in the United States Army serving from Feb. 1946 Apr. 1947. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Ishpeming and attended N.M.U. Allen became a summer employee of Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. and in turn never left the company. He spent the main part of his working career at the Pioneer Pellet Plant, but also had stints at the Humboldt and Republic Mines, and finished up as Lab Supervisor at the research lab in Ishpeming which culminated his 34 years with the Cliffs in 1982. Allen was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed time spent with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren. Every Saturday was "Bro-day" which often started with a bush ride that ended at camp. Allen loved learning, and used the computer and the internet as a source of research. Allen enjoyed baseball and softball as a player in his younger years. He was an avid Detroit Tiger Fan, and following baseball season he would turn to watching the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Susan (Anderson) Perry of Ishpeming, 4 sons Michael (Lorie) Perry of Ishpeming, Joseph (Cynthia) Perry of Bluffton, OH, William Perry of Ishpeming and James (Lisa Fabbri) Perry of Marquette, a daughter Cathy (Gerald) Melchiori of Chatham, 10 grandchildren Rachael (Steven) Laurin, Rebecca (Nick Sanchez) Perry, Joshua Perry, Katina (Toby) Campbell, Beth Perry, Jillian Perry, Jennifer (Justin) LePage, Jessica Perry, Jamie Perry and Emma Melchiori, 10 great-grandchildren, a sister Joan Luoma of Ishpeming, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Marvin Luoma. A private memorial service will be held at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate.
