Notes - Joann Ostrognai - Nov 1, 2006 (Roop site)
I was fortunate to visit one of the living children of George W. and Henrietta Dare Trullender Plummer in June 1970 when she was age 90. I took some notes while she talked. She gave their correct birth order:
1. Rosetta ("Rosie")- b. 13 Sep 1867, first marriage was to Theodore Smalley 10 Aug 1891. Second marriage was to Nathaniel Mentzer of Bluffton. Their children were Anna from Theodore's marriage; others from second marriage? Loraine, Homer, and Robert.
2. Henry D. - b. 25 Jun 1869, married Catherine Daugherty (Dougherty?) who was b. 22 Jul 1877. Aunt "Kitty" as she was called was Jenny Daughtery's sister, the woman who married Paris Jones, his second marriage. The children born to them were Harold, Catherine, Mary Elizabeth, and Robert. Henry died 23 Sep 1944. Buried in Elm Grove Cemetery, near Bluffton, Wells Co., IN.
3. William Dowell - b. 30 Jul 1871, married Tida Ellen Jones on Christmas Eve 1896 (24 Dec 1896). "Will" as he was called was a carpenter, building houses, furniture, and other utilitarian pieces. He was a kind man who did work for people who couldn't pay for what he did for them. He died 11 May 1947. Buried at Elm Grove Cemetery, near Bluffton, Wells Co., IN.
4. Elmer or Elmo? T. - b. 9 Sep 1874, married Elsie Milroy. Elmer and Will were both carpenters and often worked together. (Edna Plummer Wasson inherited Elmer's 5-string banjo.) Elsie was quite a seamstress. She sewed for everyone in Tocsin. The children were Wendell and Olive May. Elmer died 2 Mar 1939. Buried in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Tocsin, Wells Co. IN.
5. Myrtle - b. 26 Dec 1876, lived at home, never married, and died 5 Dec 1943. Buried at Elm Grove Cemetery, Bluffton, IN.
6. Mary - b. 27 Nov 1879, married Charles ("Charlie") Steele of Decatur. Their children were Chalmer, edgar, Mary, Clyde, Dick, another girl, and Ralph.
7. John F.- b. 1 Aug 1882, married Emma Scrogham. The children were Wendell, John Jr., and Lucille. John died 16 Mar 1967.
8. Charles W ("Charley"). - b. 12 Jan 1884, married twice: Hottie Cheneworth, then Wiinnie Steele. Children were Georgia, another girl, Virginia. Charley was employed by the Erie Railroad and resided in Huntington, IN.
9. Hiram Samuel - b. ? and died in infancy
10. Alfred ("Gus") - b. 17 Dec. 1889, married Alta Ashcroft, no children. Gus served under the colors in France, WW I (and brought back a beautiful portrait plate for Edna Mae Plummer Wasson of Napoleon).
George W. Plummer was in the Union Army in the Civil War (Compnay G, 101st Regiment Indiana Infantry, then Co. B, 1st U.S. Engineers). I have his military records and the pensions records. The birth dates I used are from his request for pension records which lists all the children with brith dates. After the War, he and Henrietta Dare Trullender married 18 Dec 1866 and settled in Lancaster Twp., Wells Co. He was both a carpenter and a farmer. He also received an invalid pension from war injuries.
