Thaddeus was born in OH, the son of John and Catherine (Bennett)Torbet. He migrated with his parents to Jasper Co., Indiana, then onto Iroquois Co., IL, where he married Nancy Drullinger on 24 Mar 1861.
He served with Co. F, 113th IL Vol. Infantry throughout the Civil War.(Two brothers served in Co. I of the same regiment, while another two brothers served with in Bty D, 1st IL Lt. Artillery.)
He moved his family to Linn County, Kansas between 1880 and 1883. His spouse, Nancy, is also buried in the cemetery, although there appears to be no marker for her.
