- He is clearly identified as "Jno. W. Trollinger" in the 1880 Census. 'Jno.' is the common abbreviation for Jonathan and as serves as strong evidence that his birth name most likely was Jonathan and that he went by 'John' which is a common nickname for Jonathan.
John and Rachiel may have had a son named Daniel Trolinger/Trollinger who may have been born 1858. (Ref his record at Cox-Martin Family Tree owned by oldtimersgal at Ancestry.com/Family Trees.

Where born Bedford county Tenn, age 39 years, occupation shoemaker, where enlisted Shelbyville for one year. Eyes hazel, hair dark, complexion dark, height 5 ft 11 in. Discharged from 18 June 1865 at Lebanon Tenn by reason of Physical disability on surgeons certificate by reason of chronic rheumatism reason not stated, by order of Gen Thomas.
Organized at Camp Garber, near Flat Lick, Ky., November, 1861, to March, 1862. Attached to 25th Brigade, 7th Division, Army of the Ohio, to October, 1862. 1st Brigade, District of West Virginia, Dept. of the Ohio, to November, 1862.
