As of 5 Oct 2023, I am now having second thoughts that J. A. Trollinger who died 1 Feb 1918 in Pendleton, Umatilla County, Oregon is actually the same person as Jesse A. J. Trollinger, son of Jonathan W. "John" Trolinger and Rachel Elizabeth Watson. According to the 1900 Census in Bedford County, Tennessee, Rachel/Rachiel was the mother of 8 children with 2 living. It is known for sure that her two children, Anna and Samuel were both living at the time of that census. In fact, Anna was even living with her mother at the time. Therefore, it appears that her son, Jesse A. J., who appears in the 1870 and 1880 censuses may well have been deceased before 1900. Adding to this mystery is that the Willow Mount Cemetery where his parents are buried does not currently show a grave for him. However, it is possible he is buried elsewhere. The additional mystery also remains as to who the true parents are of J. A. Trollinger who died 1 Feb 1918 in Pendleton, Umatilla County, Oregon. According to his Oregon State death certificate he was 65 years old which would make his birth year approximately 1853. Curiously, there is a Jonathan A. "John" Trollinger who was born 16 Apr 1853 in Bedford County, TN and died 27 Nov 1918 in Kaufman County, TX with almost identical statistics. (David H. Drollinger 5 Oct 2023)
I believe Jesse A. J. Trollinger, son of Jonathan W. "John" Trolinger and Rachel Elizabeth Watson, is most likely the same person as J. A. Trollinger who died 1 Feb 1918 in Pendleton, Umatilla County, Oregon. This comes after years of on again off again researching him and the entire Drollinger-Trollinger-Trolinger, etc family tree. I believe he did not have the best of childhoods and apparently headed West ending up in Pendleton, Oregon (incidentally, only about 80 miles from where I live in Kennewick, Washington) and a place I've been to many times. Pendleton was just a very small town at the time Jessie lived there. It does not appear he ever married. Being single, only a laborer at the time he was killed by a horse, living in a small town far way from where he was raised in Tennessee, it does not seem a bit surprising there was anybody including the officials who knew much about him which would explain the lack of detailed records surrounding his life.
