Frances Estelle Hollis
1928 - 2015 (87 years)-
Name Frances Estelle Hollis Birth 4 Aug 1928 Scotland County, NC Gender Female Death 22 Dec 2015 Asheville, Buncombe, NC - LEXINGTON - Frances Hollis Wilson, formerly of Red Springs, NC, died December 22, 2015 at the Western North Carolina Baptist Home in Asheville, NC. She was 87.
Mrs. Wilson was a native of Laurinburg, NC, the daughter of Elizabeth Trollinger Hollis and James Walter Hollis. She was educated in the Laurinburg public schools and received a B.A. in religious studies from Meredith College in Raleigh.
She married Paul S. Wilson of Laurinburg in 1948, and worked closely with her husband in newspaper publishing, principally at the Red Springs Citizen, until the early 1970's. At that time, she returned to school to earn teacher certification, and then taught at Peterson Elementary School in Red Springs.
A faithful and committed member of First Baptist Church, Red Springs, she engaged in a wide variety of church activities, taught Sunday school, and was the congregation's first woman deacon.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, James Walter Hollis, Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret Hollis Kissinger and Anne Hollis Jenkins.
She is survived by her three children: Betsy Wilson and her husband Kern Parker of Asheville; Buddy Wilson and his wife Cheryl of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; and Tommy Wilson and his wife Sandra of Lexington, NC. Additional survivors include two grandsons, Travis Wilson of Red Springs and Wilson Parker of Arlington, VA; step-grandchildren Katie Coburn of Austin, TX and Sam Parker of Alexandria, VA; and many loving friends and relatives.
"Frankie", as she was affectionately called, was known for her generosity, her devotion to her family and to her lifelong friends, her forthright opinions, her engaging sense of humor, and her determination to lead a Christ-centered life. Even though she was diminished by dementia in her later years, her Christian spirit, so well known to her family and old friends, still shone through to the staff and new friends at the Baptist Home.
Her family members see her spirit in the fact that she clung to life until December 22, a special day --- her husband Paul's birthday and the 67th anniversary of their wedding.
A memorial service will be conducted for Mrs. Wilson Wednesday, December 30 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church in Red Springs. A reception will follow the service.
