Notes - It appears Fannie's biological father was John Bates which is why she is identified as such herein. Her mother's maiden name was Larkins (or Larkin or Larkens - spellings differ from one document to another). Additionally, in some documents she is identified by her maiden name of Bates (or Gattes or Gettis or Gattis or other spelling variations of it) and other documents by Larkin (or other spelling variations of it). Ref her sister, Minerva's record for more information. The informant on Minerva's death certificate was her husband, Samuel M. Teer. As such, he is the person who was suppling the information about Minerva including the names of her parents, John Bates and Harriet Larkins (spelled as such). Because John and Harriet were Samuel's parents-in-law, it is presumed he would be familiar with the spellings of their names and would therefore be a more reliable source of that than other folks who came later such as children and grandchildren or nieces and nephews, etc.
Ref Fannie's son, Thomas' death certificate where she is identified as "Fannie Gattes" and her son, Cornelison's death certificate where she is identified as "Fannie Bates".
In the 1900 and 1910 census Fannie states she is the mother of 9 children with 7 living. Who is her 9th child? John Will Trollinger was the informant on Fannie's husband, Thomas Trollinger's death certificate. Depending upon who exactly he is it would appear that he could be the missing child of Fannie and Thomas.
