Erected in memory of James Skelly, Artana, died 17th Nov 1889. Also his beloved wife Martha Ann Skelly, died 17th Sep 1873. Also his daughter Sarah M. Skelly, died 28th Jan 1894. His son James Skelly died 16th Sep 1922. Mary O'Hart, daughter in law, died 13th Apr 1927. His grand children Alfred I. died 24th July 1906; Lilian M. died 3rd Jan 1909; Maggie died 25th June 1918; Isaac died 25th Nov 1918; Mary Justus, daughter in law, died 21st Jul 1941. His son John Skelly died 13th Feb 1952. His daughter Dessa died 27th Sep 1956. William Fair Spratt died 1 Nov 1969. His brother William Skelly, Ligoniel, died 27th Feb 1902
This is the last will and testament of me, James Skelly of Ballynahinch in the County of Down. I hereby revoke all wills and testamentary instruments heretofore by me made. I appoint Isaac Samuel Skelly of Belfast City, County of Down and Jacob Bell Skelly of Belfast City County of Down to be the Executors of this my will. I direct my Executors to pay my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses. I give and bequeath to my son James Skelly of Kinallen in the County of Down that farm of land owned by me in said townland & County and known as Henderson farm all monies due against said farm to be paid by said James Skelly on his becoming inherited of said farm also my son Robert Henry Skelly I give and bequeth all that certain farm of land and all farm empliments situated in the townland of Artana County of Down all monies due against said farm to be paid by said Robert H Skelly on his becoming inherited of said farm. All monies due me on promissary notes or in any other way to belong to those on whom they are drawn with the exception of note for one hundred pounds drawn on Jacob Bell Skelly of Belfast City and made payable to Essia Skelly of Ballynahinch. The said sons James Skelly and Robert H Skelly shall pay to my said executors a sum of money equal to sum spent by them in settling all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses the said sum of money to be paid by my said two sons in equal shares any interest due on notes due to me up to the time of my death shall be used by my executors towards defraying expenses of funeral or other expenses of what ever kind. I direct that all debts due by me shall be paid by said two sons within one month of my death. Witness my hand this 7th day of Oct 1889. James Skelly signed by the above named testor as his last will in the presence of us both present at the same time who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses.
