- SAN ANGELO Gerald "Jerry" Raymond Moore, 70, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, at his home. He was born on Oct. 23, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ruth; a daughter, Wendi Smith and her husband, Paul of Paint Rock; daughter Kelley Moore of Palm Bay, Fla.; and a son Jamie from Christoval; his grandchildren, Savannah and Casey Smith and Cheyenne Moore, Joseph Moore and his wife, Taleesha of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Melissa Thomas and her husband, Justin, of Urbandale, Iowa; his brother, Tom Moore and his wife, Pat, of Waynesboro, Miss.; and his sister, Betty Tippen and her husband, Delton of Troy, Texas.
While graduating from Sam Houston State University and an additional two-year associates in pre-vet medicine at Texas A&M, he was a champion bronc and bull rider, and served as president of the National Collegiate Rodeo Association. After graduation he began a career in sales, then moved to procurement where he negotiated multi-million dollar military contracts. Moving to the state of Washington in 1978, Jerry and Ruth began a hobby in breeding, raising and showing Paint and Quarter horses. Jerry was president of Washington State Paint Horse Club and on the board of directors of the British Columbia Paint Horse Club, British Columbia, Canada.
Upon retirement in 2000, he enjoyed hunting with his friends and his faithful hunting dogs. His wife and grandchildren were the loves of his life. He was a member of the National Clay Bird Association, where he participated in many charitable events and had a special affinity for the Shoot for the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. He was a 32nd degree Mason at San Angelo Lodge No. 570.
During Jerry's phenomenal life, he was married to Ruth Marie Hickman for 41 glorious years. Their love for one another will remain for all to remember as an example of what a deep and endless love should be. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Jerry will be greatly missed but never forgotten. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
