Notes - David was some what of a wild child by his own admission. He didn't say but I suspect he was given a choice of jail or the army in 1940. Served as a cook in an Engineer BN. When his grandmother died in 1942 he failed to return and was AWOL. During his overseas service his unit was mistakenly bombed by our air corps. The story he told was he was buried alive and a buddy saved him. Later when aircraft went over he broke and ran to the rear. He was in and out of VA hospitals with what we now know is PSTD. He worked as a laborer in the oil fields.
