Rachel Trolinder Smith, 87, a lifelong resident of Wichita Falls, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005, in Wichita Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2005, in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls. Officiating will be Rev. James Novak and Rev. Gerald Bryant. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls. Viewing will be held prior to the service only.
Rachel was born March 10, 1917, in Wichita Falls to Hattie May Caywood Trolinder and Leonard Arthur Trolinder. She and Verde Morton Smith were married in Walters, Oklahoma on August 10, 1943. She worked as a stockroom supervisor for McCrory, McLellan, retiring after nineteen years of service. She was especially proud to have made Easter baskets for Mrs. L. T. Burns that were delivered to needy children. Later, she worked at Sprague Electric for ten and a half years, retiring from there in 1984 at age 67. She survived the 1979 tornado in shelter while working at Sprague. She enjoyed participating in activities of her grandchildren. In later years, she enjoyed word puzzles. She was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in Wichita Falls and in later years attended the First Pentecostal Church of God in Wichita Falls. She was a faithful child of God and always had a smile for everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; her mother in 1938; her father in 1942; her brother, Oather in 1927 at age 10; her brother, James in 1931 at age 6 months; her brother, Charles in 1921 at age 3 months; a sister at birth in 1919; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Survivors include a son, V. Morton Smith, Jr. of Wichita Falls; a daughter, Helen Bills and husband, Larry of Wichita Falls; one granddaughter, Felicia Bills and Bennie Brashear of Wichita Falls; one grandson, Larry Bills, Jr. and wife, Amy of Austin. She is also survived by Virginia Varn, Terresa and Harold Purdue, Susanne, Jessie, Rayn and Kyle Coordes, all of Spokane, Washington.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2005 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
