    • Darius Maltbie of Gordon, NE, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 23rd 2018.

Darius was born on April 19, 1944 in Boise City, Oklahoma to parents Charley and Wauneta Maltbie. Darius grew up in Boise City and graduated from Boise City High School in 1962.

Darius served in the US ARMY and was always very proud of his service to his country. He was devoted to his local legion and legion brothers to his very last day. Darius was an Honor Graduate of the US Army Armor School in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon a very honorable discharge from the US ARMY, Darius had received The Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Expert Rifle recognition. Darius was deeply patriotic and loved his country. Darius served in umpteen positions over the years at the Gordon American Legion Post 34. There wasn't much he didn't help to take care of. He was also the VA representative for Hot Springs VAMC.

Darius was always a very hard worker and spoke a harsh word to none. He was quiet and humble and would always be the first to lend a hand. A kinder soul you would not find. Darius was also a very attentive husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and he always put their needs before his own. He was a natural caregiver and did so without hesitation.

Darius was a handy man. He could fix darn near any engine and could always solve any problem that would come his way. He successfully owned and operated a small engine repair shop in Gordon for many years.

Darius is survived by his wife of 41 years Sharon Maltbie of the family home. He is also survived by his children; daughters Patty, Janet (Charles), Kristi, and Shelly, his sons Dennis (Tami), Allen (Leah) and special son Ryan (Kathy). He is also survived by his grandchildren George, Tiffany, Rebecca, Deryk, Emily, Keeley, Lauren, Alexander, Dennis, Hana, Mason, Kayla, Miles, Kira, and Ryker; great grandchildren Airica, Zander, Mason, Dominic, Michael, Kaylani, Abbigail, Hailey, Alyssa, and Karsten. Darius is also survived by a sister Linda (Ron) Hatch, sister-in-law Mary Maltbie and brother-in-law Dr. Charles (Valerie) Secora. Darius is survived by many many friends and family from near and far. His faithful dog buddy Sam will be missing him likewise.

He will be missed by all that knew him. Darius touched so many lives. He lived a life of service to others. That is a life very well lived.

Services to celebrate the life of Darius Maltbie will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:00am at the Gordon American Legion Post 34.
